Not a Bunch of No-Names

The first sportswriter in history, Will “the Quill” Shakespeare, asked a question for the ages when he queried, “What’s in a name?”

To me, everything.

I’ve long been a fan of interesting and unique names. My brother’s name is Denbigh (pronounced Den-bee), and I’ve certainly never come across another individual with that moniker. I’ve also taken note of some of the more memorable sports names I’ve encountered over the years, from the divine point guard God Shammgod (of Providence, no less), to a more local but no less inspired hoops name, Swish Washington, who played at Milford a few years ago.

Perhaps my all-time favorite was a junior-college football player from Navarro who put the “man” in manly. His name? Masculine Walker.

So, it’s in that spirit that I reveal the All-Name Team of Central Texas. These guys possess names that are creative, funny or just flat-out fun to say. One note … these players are listed at their positions on the preseason rosters. In some cases, they may have since switched positions, and certainly many see time on the other side of the ball.

Without further ado, here’s our sweet-sounding squad:

SUPER CENTEX ALL-NAME TEAM

Is it just me or does everybody out in China Spring “loath” Coach Bell? Does this ring a Bell? Does the bell toll for Coach Bell? The coffee shop talk bells are ringing about Coach Bell. Any truth to it?
