Getting a tan in Waco

My parents aren’t hippies!!!
My name is Summer Shine. Yes, that’s my real name. No, my parents aren’t hippies. I don’t have a sister named Autumn and I wasn’t born in the summertime. These debates have been going on all my life. As a child I was tormented by my name. I have had to grow into it. As an adult it really works to my advantage. I mean, who forgets the interview you had with Summer Shine!!!
I know there are others who are afflicted with the same struggles as I am. Like the girl you went to school with named Heaven Lee. Or your good old friend Liberty Bell. My search today is for those of you who have befriended these folks. Who do you know or what was the legendary namesake of your town? I want to see how outrageous these names get, just to make me feel better and to prove once and for all that I’m not alone.

On The Lighter Side!
In my quest for great ice cream places around Waco, I, being on a diet, decided to find out some of the low fat versions of goodness at each location. Here’s what I found:
Coldstone Creamery - Sinless Sweet Cream is a creamy ice cream that has no sugar, 0 grams of fat and 160 calories.
Dairy Queen - Surprisingly they had the lowest calorie ice cream and it is SOOOOO good. The Fudge Bar has no added sugar, 0 grams of fat and, get this, 50 calories!!!
Bahama Buck’s - They call their fat free choice Thin Ice. It has no fat, sugar or calories! WOW! And they have Thin Ice in most of their regular flavors.
Marble Slab Creamery - They have frozen yogurt in chocolate and vanilla that has no sugar added and low fat. They didn’t have any further nutritional information.
Katie’s Frozen Custard - They have low carb chocolate and vanilla custard and every Tuesday they have Butter Pecan low carb custard.
So, not only do these places have great full fat choices but they also have really good selection for those of us who want to get into a bathing suit sometime in this life!!!
Thank you for reading.
God bless our summer!!!

Well, For Starters…
Hello, and welcome to Summer in the City. The best spot for what’s happening this summer in Waco. I’m your fun-time host Summer Shine. It’s my duty to bring you the best of summer-time events in our area. In doing so, I employ you to send in any events that you think I should check out around town to add to my blog!
The first event I would like to add is the Grand Opening of Greater Waco Chamber’s new green building. Not the typical kind of event I will be covering here but something I defiantly want to get behind. This building is remarkable. Some of the very cool and energy saving features include:
Natural lighting — with huge 9’ X 24’ skylights that “Let the sun shine in.” Cutting back on the light bill.
A White roof — which helps to lower cooling costs because it reflects heat.
Solar power — energy provided by the most powerful energy source in our universe.
Low V.O.C. — this is paint and carpet that are made with volatile organic compounds which has fewer emissions and makes for a healthier work environment.
And my personal favorite:
The Living roof — this is literally a garden on the roof of the first floor. Not only does it provide a great view from the second story windows, but it also absorbs air pollution and stores carbon.
All in all this new building stands out in the cities ever growing demand for a cleaner, more livable community. Way to go, Chamber!!! Hopefully builders and big companies will follow your lead.
Thanks for reading. Keep an eye out for my video blog, coming soon.
God bless our summer.
