AMC connects with Jake/ Frankie friendship
One thing I think All My Children does very well is friendships. The show devotes a lot of scenes to platonic bonding, such as Kendall and Greenlee or newer duo Erica and Carmen.
But it’s not just female friendships that get the limelight. Perhaps what impresses me most about AMC is its ability to foster bonds among its male characters.
Aidan and Tad, for example, always give me the warm fuzzies (and not just because I find them both kinda dreamy). Michael E. Knight and Aiden Turner have such an easy chemistry. It’s fun watching them work together.
Tad’s relationship with Jesse (Darnell Williams) is another prime example of a believable male friendship. There’s plenty of teasing, of course, but the heart-to-hearts these two characters share show just how deep their connection truly is. They have each other’s back, no matter what.
The newest bond to catch my eye is the kinship between Jake and Frankie. When Jake was lying in the hospital bed — haunted by memories, anxious to leave — Frankie recognized the look, recognized the desperation. After all, he had been through his own version of war.
It makes sense that Jake and Frankie would connect, and I’m so glad AMC has been smart enough to tap into that common ground. Even more poignant is the fact that Jake used to be Frankie’s mentor; now Frankie gets to return the favor, in a way.
I have quickly become a huge fan of Cornelius Smith Jr. (Frankie) and am so pleased that he is getting more story and screen time. As for Ricky Paull Goldin, I have no doubt that he’ll be a great fit as AMC’s newest, more tortured Jake. He hasn’t disappointed me yet (I was particularly fond of him as Another World’s Dean Frame}.
Hopefully, AMC will continue to nurture and spotlight a friendship between Jake and Frankie. With these two actors in scenes together, I don’t think the show can go wrong.

I also enjoyed their connection & look forward to watching their friendship develop even more. This was a good move by AMC writers, and it makes a ton of sense. The Hubbards & Martins are intertwined in so many ways, can’t wait to see more.
