“The Real Greenlee” Returns - A Big Yawner In My Book

Lame!

That’s the first word that came to mind after watching “The Real Greenlee” return to ABC’s All My Children last week.

More accurately, I should say, after I made it through only half the show before changing the channel.

I have nothing against Rebecca Budig “The Real Greenlee,” according to the ABC’s crass ad campaign to herald her return.

In fact, I really enjoyed her portrayl of Greenlee Smythe.

Back then I was actually watching AMC.

Because back then the writing was actually pretty good.

But I stopped watching AMC on a regular basis a couple of years ago.

I still tune in from time to time to see if the storylines are improving at all.

So far, that’s a no.

I also tune in to watch certain actors like Thorsten Kaye, David Canary, Michael E.Knight and Cameron Mathison.

I like their performances and their characters and they’re the reason I won’t abandon AMC for good.

I also used to enjoy Cady McClain as Dixie Martin —— oh wait, they killed her off….

And Julia Barr as Brooke English….Oh yeah, she just disappeared from the scene after 30 years on the show when ABC failed to renew her contract.

So you get my drift. I’m not happy with the powers that be at AMC.

Kara has written at length about the tactless and crude “Real Greenlee” campaign launched by ABC after they fired Sabine Singh in order to rehire Budig, the role’s originator. The entire campaign and countdown to Budig’s return was low rent and disrespected Singh’s work, which by the way was good.

Click here to read Kara’s Jan. 8 entry about Singh and ABC’s shabby treatment of the actress.

In fact, fan outcry towards ABC has been so widespread that there are campaigns to rally behind Singh. You can read all about it here.

So I decided to turn on SOAPnet last week to watch Budig’s return, just because I wanted to see if AMC would do anything interesting.

Dissapointed again!

They had some stupid party at Fusion with everyone welcoming Greenlee back.

I’ll leave you to watch it for yourself.

So what do you think?

Wow, does the lack of comments here speak volumes about Rebecca Budig’s return as Greenlee or what?

I have a comment. ZZZZZZZZ! Or is that more of an exclamation? It’s bad enough that her return was lackluster, but the character is absolutely bland now. Gone is Sabine Singh’s energy, and here to stay is RBs sneers and veneers 24/7!

Now, I know she is playing a sick character, but Budig’s eyes seem so lifeless, she seems like she is not really into it. You can see her acting, and she is just collecting a paycheck.

They fired Sabine Singh for this craptastic return?

I found Rebecca’s return to be subtle and not in-your-face — as opposed to the ABC ads and Web site countdown for her return. I am glad it was understated.

And I can’t imagine Sabine having the same chemistry with Thorsten.

I am thrilled Rebecca has returned.
