District clerk promotes Hillary, early voting Monday

To promote early voting and her favorite candidate, McLennan County District Clerk Karen Matkin will cast her ballot for presidetial candidate Hillary Clinton today at 1:30 p.m.

Afterward, she will hold a press conference to discuss the importance of early vote and her support for Hillary Clinton’s candidacy.

“I have decided to support Hillary Clinton for President because we need a president who has experience in the solutions business and Hillary has over 35 years,” Matkin said in a news release. “Hillary will run a White House that works for the American people again and I am looking forward to casting my early vote for Hillary tomorrow and encouraging others to do the same.”

Matkin began her career in 1976 where she became an assistant district attorney in McLennan County. She served in that post for five years before working in private practice.

Matkin was selected by Ann Richards to be on the Governor’s Commission on Women where she served from 1991-1993 and was the President of the McLennan County Bar Association from 2002 to 2003.

Well this is nice to know. It will influence my vote next time she runs. Hopefully next time we will get an Obama supporter.

Indeed — our votes for local positions should have as little to do with things like competence, knowhow and job performance as possible. Presidential candidate support is definitely the primary criterion I would use.

Yes and unfortuanately many are using the same criteria for president. What’s proven competence got to do with it when you have a great smile and look good in a suit. Heck, after Obama let’s go for Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs. He has looking good and speaking well for a lot longer than Obama on a national scale. Dems can’t seem to get it right. The path was prepared for future success with all the Republicans troubles, but nooooo. Hillary/Barack wins in November. Then Barrack/? for the future. Instead we will have McCain.

Matkin, what you did by telling all who you voted for, and was backing shows a GREAT DEAL OF NON-PROFESSIONALISM..If you want to back a candiate, then do so, but, publicly keep your big mouth shut. Your not in that position to campaign for anyone, you being payed out of tax dollars, you should be neutral as far as the public is concerned, if you can’t do that then get out of that postion.

Some of you people need to wake up and smell the coffee. Karen Matkin is politician, and politicians make endorsements all the time because that is one of the things they do. If you are going to base your vote for District Clerk based on them endorsing or not endorsing a candidate then you better think about running because she is yet to have an opponent. Also some of you need to learn to spell.

Wake up people, or at least some of you. Karen Matkin is a politician and one of the things that politicians do is make endorsements. If you are going to base your vote for District Clerk on her endorsements then you might consider running for the post because she is yet to have an opponent. Should Senator Obama win the Democratic nomination I am sure she will then vote for him and you will have gotten your wish.

C.T.:

Did anyone tell Chet Edwards to keep his mouth shut. American who hold office can no longer endorse a candidate. Chet made his choice and now I will make mine. That’s how it works. Don’t like their choices, don’t vote for them.

What I wrote about Matkin, I stand by,and should be applied to all public employees be they congressional, are trash truck driver, yes, they do have a right to speak, but I think it should not be done publicly, and yes if, anyone pays any attention to her, are Edwards, are any of the rest of those people then they may be considered brain dead. But still, and you can disagree or not, I think it very UN-PROFESSIONAL, to speak, when one is being payed out of the tax dollars, and again, I dont care if its the Pres. I will vote, for anyone, that is wondering, but I tell you the truth, I have yet to see one of the candidates that is worth the gas to drive to the polls..
