Hard to argue with results

David Cook is the winner. He will sell tons of records, so it’s hard to argue with the voting, a vote that far eclipsed the previous high voting tally.
But David Archuleta will also sell tons of records, so if he had won, you wouldn’t be able to argue with it either. His performance with One Republic proved that he can cut it on a contemporary song.
The performance of the night, though, was Cook with ZZ Top on “Sharp Dressed Man.” Seriously, he should have sung that on Tuesday night for the competition round. In the end, his song choice didn’t hurt him, but that was a killer performance, with or without ZZ Top.
And so another season wraps up on “American Idol.” I’ve enjoyed discussing it vwith you these last five months. Hopefully, we’ll do it all again in 2009.

Cook is okay, but it seems to be to another sign of Americans lashing out at anything or anyone that seems to have a wholesome quality. The cynical rough-hewn crowd. To paraphrase the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, America seems to like ridin’ dirty these days. So God Bless American Idol? No, No, No, *God * American Idol.
