Best of three tonight

Tonight’s round is all about threes. There are three contestants and three judges. There will be three songs for each contestant. And each contestant’s songs were picked by three different entities.

Yes, as in past seasons, each contestant will sing a song they pick, one a judge picked for them, and one picked by the production staff.

The contestants learned their judge’s pick at ceremonies in their hometowns on Friday.

My alert mother sent me an article from the Tulsa World about David Cook. He’s been living in Tulsa, but his hometown ceremony was in Blue Springs, Mo., a suburb of Kansas City. Nevertheless, the Tulsa paper has been keeping track of him as if he were a hometown boy.

According to the article, Simon picked for David (Cook, not Archuleta, mind you) Roberta Flack’s “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.” Now, there’s a pick out of left field!

I could see Syesha singing that. I could even see Archuleta singing that. But Cook? Only if he does to it what he did to Lionel Ritchie.

And maybe that’s exactly what Simon had in mind. We’ll see what happens tonight.

Be sure to come back tomorrow to share your thoughts on the evening.
