Ryan Seacrest — Simon’s ‘annoying litle bug’
TRIB BALLOT
On an episode of Oprah’s show last week, Simon Cowell was a guest. Oprah asked the “American Idol” creator and love-him-or-hate-him judge about his relationship with the other “Idol” regulars, Ryan Seacrest in particular.
Simon responded that his relationship with all of them has changed over the seven seasons, as the show has grown in popularity and the others have grown in confidence.
He said that Ryan in particular had grown into “a mosquito in your face.” He went on to say about Ryan, “You want to swat him but he can’t be bothered.”
Oprah asked Simon if the battles between the judges and between Simon and Ryan are staged. Simon responded that he doesn’t see the others enough ahead of time to work such things out.
Yet, if they were staged, would he really admit that to Oprah? Part of the staging would have to be maintaining the illusion, wouldn’t it? In a season without a contestant to really pick on, they need something for the controversy factor. Is this it?
