Simon right to be frustrated by mediocre performances
By Nathan Wade

Simon had every right to bring out the claws last night. The performances lacked any flash, sparkle, or delightful overtone whatsoever. While we’ve definitely seen worse individual performances over the last 7 seasons, the night on the whole was mediocre at best.
Here are my favorites from Simon’s criticisms:
“You didn’t hit the right notes. The song was all over the place.”
“I thought the performance was terrible from the horrible dancing to the absolute lack of connection.”
“I don’t think it was good as you thought it was.”
“I thought the song was indulgent.”
“It was gimmicky.”
“It sounded very amateurish—the whole thing.”
And the best of the night was a two-parter:
“You need hypnosis because you’re not a good performer. It’s like musical wallpaper in that you notice it, but you don’t remember it.”
We’ll see tonight if America agreed with his evaluation.
