Relive the ’90s tonight

We are down to eight contestants of each gender, and the final round of quadruple cuts begins tonight.

With only eight guys to perform, the show will be back to the traditional hour-long window, at 7 p.m. on FOX.

I had assumed that we would progress linearly and hear songs of the ’80s. But according to season 1 finalist and TV Guide network host Justin Guarini, tonight and tomorrow night will be songs from the ’90s.

For the guys, I see four contestants as a lock for the finals: The three Davids and Aussie Michael Johns. If the Chikezie of last week makes a return, I think he has the fifth slot locked up.

So that leaves three guys vying for one spot: Theatrical Luke, head-bobbing and somewhat girly Danny, or A&M student Jason. Of the three, I prefer Jason, but expect whoever makes that last spot to be eliminated early in the next round.

For the ladies, I see Asia’h and Seyesha as locks. Carly probably is a lock as well, even though I’d like t see her eliminated from the competition. And the rest totally are dependent on whether they do anything great this week.

I agree with the commenter who says David Archuleta is the next “Idol.” But as we all know, the person who most deserves to win doesn’t always get the prize.

Let’s see what unfolds tonight!
