Another Deadly Dog Attack

It was in the paper this morning, that on May 18th a boy died from a pit bull attack. He was playing in his yard when attacked and later found dead. The owners of the dogs are now facing felony charges that carries a sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.

I am concerned why a seven year old child was unsupervised for a long enough time to be attacked and later found by a passerby. I am saddened that another pit bull has been involved in a mauling death.

Why are pit bulls involved in so many of these attacks? Why are so many people willing to risk taking another’s life and ruin their own by keeping aggressive dogs? Is there a solution to this pit bull problem?

I think the solution starts with requiring spaying and neutering. If the excess hormones are removed from these animals, they are much less likely to behave inappropriately. Sure, some individuals will always find ways around the system, but it would reduce this terrible impact on these families and communities. I’d be interested to know how the dogs were secured (or not). Fenced, tethered, on cabled runs, etc? Also, the chances that any of them were spayed/neutered are slim. The case will probably show that several things could have been done to prevent this tragedy.

THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THE WAY PEOPLE ARE RAISING THESE PIT BULLS!!! THEY ARE TRAINING THEM TO BE AGGRESIVE AND THE MOST COMMON WAY TO DO THIS IS TO STARVE THE DOG!! IT IS ALL IN THE WAY THEY ARE RAISED. I AM A PROUD OWNER OF A 5 YEAR OLD PIT. I RAISED HER VERY GOOD, I DIDN’T TEACH HER TO BE MEAN, SHE HAS NEVER IN ANY WAY ACTED AGGRESIVE AROUND OTHER DOGS, ADULTS, OR CHILDREN. WHEN THESE DOGS ARE RAISED THE RIGHT WAY THEY CAN BE THE VERY BEST PET A PERSON COULD EVER HAVE, SURE THEY ARE GOING TO BE PROTECTIVE, THAT IS THEIR INSTINCTS. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS REPORTS DONE ON THE STATISTICS OF DOG BITES. THERE ARE 4 DIFFRENT BREEDS OF DOG THAT HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO BITE SOMEONE MORE OFTEN THAN A PIT BULL, BUT THE REASON THE PUBLIC HEARS ABOUT PIT BULL ATTACKS IS BECAUSE WHEN THE PIT BULL BITES, THE BITE CAUSES MORE DAMAGE THAN ANY OTHER DOG. SO IF YOU RAISE YOUR PIT IN A LOVING HOME, THE RIGHT WAY, YOU WILL HAVE A VERY LOYAL LOVING PET.
