Sooners pile up dynamic digits

It’s been said that there are lies, there are damned lies and then there are statistics.

Certainly, statistics can be manipulated and twisted to the point where they’re meaningless. But I’ve got to say, in examining and researching Baylor’s upcoming opponent — the Oklahoma Sooners — this week, I noticed more than a few compelling stats that speak to OU’s illustrious college football history.

Here’s a look at the Sooners by the numbers:

665 — Total number of weeks that Oklahoma has been ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. That ranks fourth all-time, behind Michigan (752), Ohio State (741) and Notre Dame (705).

128 — Number of games in which Oklahoma has scored 50 or more points.

101-22 — Bob Stoops’ record in Norman. Making it all the more impressive is the fact that is Stoops is only the second coach ever, and the first in the modern era, to win 100 games in his first 10 seasons.

61-50-3 — Oklahoma’s record in the 10 years prior to Stoops’ arrival, under three less-than-legendary coaches (Gary Gibbs, Howard Schnellenberger and John Blake).

41 — Conference championships won by Oklahoma.

30 — Seasons in which the Sooners have won 10 or more games.

17-0 — Oklahoma’s all-time record against Baylor. The Sooners remain the only Big 12 team the Bears have never beaten.

7 — National championships.

5 — Big 12 football titles, tops in the league.

1-4 — OU’s record in their last five bowl games under Stoops. Sorry, Sooner fans, but all that crimson-and-cream minutiae was beginning to make me nauseated.

Take away the players from the Lone Star State on the ‘Oklahoma University’ team….sooners are losers, just another ‘also ran’.

Build a border fence along the Red River, too. Keep our players home.

OU’s starting O-line are from Colorado,Ohio,Georgia,Oklahoma and Texas. The running backs are from Las Vegas, Louisianna and Oklahoma. The wide receivers are from Texas. The QB, slot and tight end are all from Oklahoma. Pretty diverse group……….see you saturday.

Hey Brazosdog….Did you notice statistic # 2 listed above? And you still think your precious little boys from Baylor can keep it within 50 points against a powerhouse like Oklahoma? You must be one of those fools still talking about the “Teaff Era”!

Jim, try learning to post before you make such profound statements.

Stephen, You must be a math major, right? SCORING 50 doesn’t mean WINNING by 50. And the line is OU - 26.5 last I checked …. So, who’s holding the money?

You’re assuming Baylor is even going to score??? It gets funnier by the minute!

Brazos, instead of commenting on my posting misshaps how about a comment about the Big 12 misshap of including Baylor instead of TCU…….you can’t even sell out that high school stadium………Waco will look like Norman south saturday.

Texas HS players are all over the place…you have a large state…it only makes sense that OU would take a few. Mostly from the Dallas area (N. Oklahoma) BTW. Big thanks to our legendary coaches for recruiting the african american atheletes before Texas did too since that’s a great conversation to have with the recruit’s parents these days.

This week I am going to take OU and give the points.

Granted BU has had a week to prepare and hopefully get Griffin healthy, but I saw the OU - TCU game and I just don’t think BU has anyone in their secondary that can cover the OU wideouts consistently. Serious deep threat capability here.

BU couldn’t stop Wake Forest’s QB, and OU’s bunch is much better.

Trackbias…….Totally agreed. I’m giving Brazosdog 50 points— and for whatever reason he still thinks the cubs from Baylor have a chance against a Big 12 powerhouse. There’s obviously a HUGE difference between the Pop Warner teams Baylor has played recently vs. what they will face on Saturday. It’s going to be really ugly for Baylor, and for their sake, I hope it’s not televised—but you know it will be. Halloween’s coming early this year Baylor boys!

hey stephen..i’ll take your 50 points too. And maybe if you’d get off the computer 24-7, you’d know that the game is televised. “Halloween’s coming early this year Baylor boys”??? What the crap does that supposed to mean? IDIOT!!

Stephen I will take 50 Points and Baylor as well. I think people are overlooking what Briles and his staff have done so far. I am not saying by any stretch that Baylor will win the game, I am just saying I don’t think they will get blown out.

Rooter (Roto Rooter is your place of employment, right?) ….I work from my home, so therefore I AM on my pc all day. And although I’m not sure why you would choose to call me an idiot via blog— I am quite sure you wouldn’t be as foolish in person. Obviously the game is televised—the number one team in the nation is playing. Do you really think they would televise Baylor for any other reason?

I’ve been ciphering hard on this game. Like I was telling Uncle Jed this morning over vittles, Stephen most likely will loose money on the game. Even thought the line is 27 points, coach Stoops is unlikely to run up the score on a DOORMAT team such as Baylor.

If not for the game being on TV, Stoops could leave his first string at home and beat Baylor with his second and third string player. This would keep his best players healthy, give the other players some time on the field and make the game more interesting for Baylor Fans.

Stephen has however, brought out one of my favorite characteristics of the Baptist Baylor fan.

OU will not overlook this game. Baylor has a host of very talented athletes. If OU can keep Baylor from gaining momentum, the Soomer might be able to escape Baylor with a victory.

i heard that on his way to Waco, Stoops is dropping off his 1st string in Dallas, to get ready for next week, and bringing his practice squad ,Mack Brown was doing the same on his way to Boulder?

I smell upset this weekend!!!!!

Anyway, how about the Baylor Volleyball team. They could be the best VB team in Baylor history. Not enough is being made of this in my opinion.

Great to see both sports doing so well!!!
