Debuts haven’t been good for recent BU coaches
By John Werner

Baylor coach Art Briles hopes to match what Chuck Reedy did in his 1993 coaching debut.
Reedy’s Bears knocked off No. 25 Fresno State, 42-39, in a riveting game at Floyd Casey Stadium. If Briles can do the same Thursday night against No. 23 Wake Forest, his program would be off to an incredible start.
The three Baylor coaches who followed Reedy didn’t fare as well in their debuts.
Dave Roberts’ team was buried by Miami, 45-14, in 1997. Kevin Steele’s 1999 team lost to Boston College in overtime on a missed extra point. Guy Morriss’ 2003 team dropped a tight 24-19 decision to UAB in his debut.

I’m afraid Briles will drop his first game like the rest did. When the line opened at 13, I committed the cardinal sin and thought BU could cover. Now it’s 11.5 and I came to my senses. Remember that Steele debacle at California?
The question; is WF over rated? Granted they won a bowl over UConn, (so what) but look at their schedule. If BU played Duke, NC, Vandy, NC St. & Navy last year, they might look OK too. I guarantee WF would not be a bowl team if they played a Big 12 schedule, heck they lost to a pretty bad Nebraska team.
Having said that, WF does have 9 returning on defense, a good kicker, and apparently a good coach. BU is staking its hopes on a freshman QB, & kicker and they have been prone to poor special teams play and turnovers forever it seems.
I’m gonna take WF and give the 11.5, but I’ve never hit a game in my life. Anybody else willing to stick their neck out in print?

Here we go again, another over hyped season opener on television. If the Bears played in the caliber of conferences that UH or WF play in Morris would still be the coach. I truly hope that Brile’s offensive coordinator will throw the ball down field. I cannot bear to see another pass to the wide reciever 2 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Prediction WF 24 BU 9!

Sure the Demons are over rated this year. No way they will have the same success as last year. But Dallasbloke and Spurlove say BU is going to win 6 or more games. This has to be on of them.
Win or lose, at least the trash will be picked up.
Does anyone know the last time Baylor won 6 or more games in football? -<><

Baylor last won 6 or more games in 1995, the last year of the SWC. We were 7 - 4 overall and 5 - 2 in conference.

In case anybody is still reading this: Reedy won his first game with a Teaff team. By the end of the year they were a sandlot team and they have never recovered.
