Waco man arrested in sexual assault

Waco resident Eddie Patterson, 42, is being charged with aggravated sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping after he allegedly picked up a woman in his Jeep and assaulted her early Wednesday.

The woman told Waco police officers she had been walking near the intersection of Richter and Bagby avenues when Patterson offered to give her a ride in his blue Jeep Cherokee, according to a Waco Police Department press release. The woman said she accepted the ride because she knew Patterson.

But once in the Jeep, the he started driving in the opposite direction of the destination the she requested, the press release reads. Patterson threatened to kill the woman after she demanded to be taken home, police said. She tried to jump out of the moving car, but Patterson pulled her back into the car and threatened her with a pistol, the press release reads.

The victim was taken to a secluded spot near Robinson, where she was sexually assaulted and abandoned, police said. The victim then walked until she found a phone to call authorities.

The victim reported the crime shortly before 4 a.m. today.

Patterson was arrested today at his residence near 26th and Clay. He is being held in the McLennan County jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Before you comment, please take a few moments to make sure that what you're saying is civil and respectful. We don't tolerate personal attacks, insults, name-calling, impersonations or generally hateful comments — they don't make for a pleasant (or productive) conversation. We want to raise the level of debate and encourage a wide diversity of viewpoints — and that means disagreeing without being disagreeable. If you wouldn't say it to your grandmother, you probably shouldn't say it here.
