Blaze at pallet company appears to be out

Three cities’ firefighters have apparently doused a blaze at the Red Express Pallet Company, 7314 Bagby Ave. this evening.

Waco, Hewitt and Woodway fire departments have speant the last couple of hours fighting the fire.

Smoke could be seen rising from the site for miles around and flames can be seen as one approaches closer.

Bagby Avenue has been closed near the fire, and is also blocked by a firehose running from a hydrant across the street.

This was always an accident waiting to happen. They burn old pallets on a regular basis in a large open metal furnace with flames reaching 15 feet or more. I’m surprised this didn’t happen sooner.

I was listening on the scanner and sounded like Hewitt FD had no leadership and Zachary from Woodway was concern for the fire fights safety because Hewitt did not know what they were doing. I think the City Manager- Adam Miles of Hewitt needs to look into this matter before someone gets hurt or killed.

Plus all the stupid people going around the barricades on Bagby Ave. Per the police on the scanner. Onc was a employee from Hillcreast

I was listening on my police scanner too, and it’s been out for a long time… I agree with you though.

My husband was out there helping with traffic control and he was almost hit by a white Suburban who took it upon herself to go around the barriers and hit the firehose doing 60 miles an hour. Turn around and go the other way. What’s the big deal? The hose is still there for the hot spots. The fire hydrant is across the street. Why is is such a big deal?

I agree…people need to slow down and be careful. However, my husband and I drove by, and the men we saw doing traffic control need a safety course on doing their jobs. It was ridiculous! They clearly don’t know what they’re doing!! I do agree that people need to slow down and be more careful though.

There is always room for training, however, when you have several different agencies trying to work together to control the situation, mix that with people who are tired and cranky and on their way home from a long day at work, a worried owner of a company that’s on fire, fire fighters who are trying to control a blaze with water that is across the street for some unknown reason, people who just want to see what’s going on and people who are absolutely not paying attention…there is bound to be chaos. Patience is a virtue or you can just turn around and go a different way. Easy as that!

This was at 9:30pm…there was absolutely nothing to see, and no chaos at the time. Bottom line…EVERYONE needs to be more careful..including traffic control.

Anytime there is an accident or anything else that happens It’s the gawkers/neck-bobers that get in the way and usually cause ‘all’ of the problems!! All of you people that do this need to stay away from the Firemen/women/police or who ever is trying to do their job or volunteered job. Just ‘Stay’ OUT OF THEIR WAY!!! PERIOD!!!
