Line being repaired from small wastewater spill in Robinson
A contractor today is replacing a sewer line in Robinson after 110,000 gallons of domestic wastewater spilled into a portion of Flat Creek late Wednesday afternoon.
The city sent out a state-mandated release concerning the spill, which occurred about 4 p.m. Wednesday after a cast-iron pipe cracked because of shifting ground. The wastewater entered Flat Creek about a quarter-mile upstream from South 12th Street, the release said.
The spill was contained and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality contacted, the release said. The potentially affected area is the immediate vicinity of Flat Creek downstream of the spill, but no farther than the Highway 3400 bridge, according to the release.
Fletcher said there has been some confusion in radio and TV reports about the spill because the state-mandated report sent to news media includes a section about precautions residents “may wish to take,” such as boiling water.
The city manager said Robinson residents have no need to worry; it was a sewer line and public water is not affected. There is no boil order in effect, he said.
The only residents who might want to take precautions are those in the immediate area of the spill who have a private water well, he said.
About 110,000 gallons of domestic wastewater from the city of Robinson that spilled into Flat Creek Wednesday afternoon has been contained, City Manager Dick Fletcher said this morning.
According to a release from the city, a crack i
public water not a problem.
