‘48 Hours’ to feature Matt Baker case again
CBS’ “48 Hours Mystery” revisits the death of Hewitt resident Kari Baker tonight in a mostly repeat broadcast, though reporter Erin Moriarty will update the story since it first aired, likely with the latest from earlier this year as her husband, former pastor Matt Baker, accused of her murder, prepares for trial this fall.
Moriarty was at the McLennan County Courthouse, along with Dateline NBC and Oxygen Network producers when Baker went before Judge Ralph Strother on April 9.
A preview of the broadcast is below.
Moriarty’s Reporter’s Notebook video is here.

With this televised speecial, I am not sure what Mr. Bakers attorney was thinking in participating in it. In my opinion, (which I am entitled to) this story has done nothing for the defense.

I watched it and am still unsure what to really think. Apparently the “ex girlfriend” had something to say, which helped propel this thing forward again. I have also seen how vidictive an ex can be… Oh well, it should be an interesting trial…

I thought it was intersting how they pointed out the differences in his story. “The first he knew of a suicide note was when the police showed it to him, then the 911 call said, she basically said I’m sorry.” “I did not want to date Vanessa, but he asked her parents permission to date her.” The computer missing at work and suddenly the hard drive crashed on the one at home. I wonder if they can use the video footage in trial? It doesn’t look good for Mr. Baker. Those poor kids

i agree with you NEW LIGHT. there were many differences in his stories. i know a couple of the ladies she worked with at Hewitt Elementary; they were personal friends of hers, and they say that she was not walking around sad etc before her death. if she was planning to kill herself why even worry about a new job at the Middle school?
there’s also been one too many stories come up about him saying and/or doing inappropriate things to young girls; seriously…is it a conspiracy that they are all saying the same thing??? (i doubt it) Oh, and dont forget about the crushed pills and conversation with her councelor for goodness sakes…stating that she was afraid he was trying to kill her!
now the girlfriend surfaces; coincidence? i dont think so. she knows something. maybe its big; maybe its small; but whatever it is, it was enough to have him indicted! Karma’s a b*h! IF he did this, as i suspect he did, he’ll get what’s coming to him. it may not be today or tomorrow…or next year for that matter. But he’ll get it all fed back to him in the end!!!
