Details released on slaying of Hill County youth

During a press conference this afternoon, Hill County Sheriff Jeffrey T. Lyon gave details of how Debra Janelle Jeter picked up her daughters from their father’s home in Hillsboro Friday hours before calling and admitting to eventually killing Kelsey Jeter, 12, and wounding Kiersten Jeter, 13.

Lyon said Debra Jeter and her husband, Lee Jeter had separated, and that he was awarded temporary custody. Lyon said when Debra Jeter picked up the girls for visitation, she told her husband she had a surprise for the girls.

Details are somewhat sketchy, but Debra Jeter reportedly drove the girls from Hillsboro to Corsicana, and on the way back to Hillsboro, she looked for vacant houses.

She reportedly found a sprawling and empty 3,000-square-foot house on a hill at 215 State Highway 77, where she told police she killed her daughters.

Deputies at the scene found Debra Jeter standing outside holding a knife.

Inside the house, the found Kelsey Jeter’s body and they discovered Kiersten Jeter was seriously wounded.

Kiersten Jeter remains at Parkland Hospital in Dallas in stable condition, officials said.

Lyon said that Debra Jeter had attempted suicide about three weeks earlier at her house, and she was admitted to Heart of Texas Region MHMR in Waco, where she was treated until recently.

Debra Jeter is on suicide watch at Hill County Jail and is being held in lieu of $1.5 million bond.

Lyon said since her arrest, Debra Jeter hasn’t spoke to anyone.

I knew her!!!. Everything changes when you’ve known the woman. I’ve taken classes with her, talked to her, been tutored by her! This woman made straight a’s. She was always the one you went to if you had trouble. You would have never expected this from someone like her….but I guess you never know a person. I wonder who she is waiting to talk to.

i mean, iv heard ppl say they knew Janelle, but seriously, kiersten is my best friend. not to b rude or anything, but ya’ll news people need to leave this family alone. they already have enough to deal with, esspecially with being harrassed by the media. let them do what they need to do and theyll give you the story when there ready for it. no, none of us thought that Janelle would do anything like this. shes a smart woman, like someone already pointed out. shes not talking to anyone cuz shes crazy, duh. so ppl just need to butt out. u honestly dont want to know the story. its horrible. so just leave us alone and leave the story at what it is right now. trust me when i say you dont wanna know
