State track (latest): Waco High boy, Marlin girl win 100 gold
9:45 PM: No repeat for the Midway boys, as they finish seventh in the 4A 4x400 relay in a time of 3:21.57.
Lancaster won in a time of 3:13.55.
That’s it. We’ll be back tomorrow to handle the final day of the state track meet.
9:13 PM: Bruceville-Eddy’s Tye Doty takes fifth in the 2A boys’ 3,200 meters with a time of 4:30.58.
Pottsboro’s Nathan Collier won in 4:22.42.
9:01 PM: Valley Mills’ Garrett Trammell finishes fifth in the 1A boys’ high jump with a clearance of 6-4. Trammell actually tied with two others for the third best mark, but he gets fifth based on misses.
Similarly, Axtell’s Jay Helleck was eighth at 6-2 on misses after tying with two other boys in sixth.
Waskom’s Aaron Jackson won gold with a mark of 6-7.
8:42 PM: Connally’s Kirsten Knox comes in seventh in the 3A girls’ triple jump with a leap of 36-9 3/4.
Charla Craddock of Farmersville won with a mark of 39-5 3/4.
There are only three more events tonight involving Central Texas athletes:
Axtell’s Jay Helleck and Valley Mills’ Garrett Trammell are competing in the 1A boys’ high jump.
Bruceville-Eddy’s Tye Doty is set to run the 2A boys’ 3,200 meters around 8:55 p.m.
The Midway boys’ 4x400 relay will race in the final event of the night around 9:15 p.m.
Of course, there’s much more to come Saturday with more field events and running finals in 1A, 3A and 5A.
7:29 PM: Waco High’s Charles Silmon ran away from the field to claim the gold medal in the 4A boys’ 100 meters.
Silmon’s time of 10.41 was .22 better than Donte Moore of Manor.
7:25 PM: Marlin’s Jasmine Armstead became the second Central Texas athlete to win gold today at the state track meet, taking first in the 2A 100 meters.
Armstead’s time of 12.27 was .13 better than Paige Klein of Alvord.
Chilton’s Montraze Landrum won the 1A boys’ long jump earlier today.
Catching up on some recent results:
Waco High’s Alaetra Davis took sixth in the 4A girls’ shot put with a mark of 38-4.
Bruceville-Eddy’s Greg Bostick was fourth in the 2A boys’ 800 with a time of 1:59.06.
Crawford’s Kody Johnston added a fourth place in the shot put to his fourth in the discus earlier today. Johnston threw 52-3 3/4 in the shot.
4A boys’ 800 meters
University’s Raphael Propes finished fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.34.
Howard Shepard of Lancaster won in a time of 1:52.69.
2A girls’ shot put
McGregor’s TaRoya Clayborn was eighth in the 2A girls’ shot put with a mark of 34 feet, 6 1/2 inches.
Samantha Taylor of Corrigan-Camden won with a toss of 42-11 1/4.

1A girls’ discus
Hubbard’s Kristin Smithey took fifth in the 1A girls’ discus with a throw of 109 feet, 6 inches.
Tara Riley of Quanah won gold with a mark of 128-2.
3A girls’ long jump
Connally’s Kirsten Knox finished seventh in the 3A long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 7 3/4 inches.
Callie Ives of Andrews won gold with a mark of 19-0.
1A long jump
We have our first area state champion. Chilton’s Montraze Landrum won the 1A long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 10 1/2 inches.
Landrum held off Meridian’s Torrance Allen, who finished second at 23-2 1/4.
Bremond’s LiDarral Bailey was sixth (21-5 3/4), and Itasca’s Greg Mason was seventh (21-4 1/2).
Valley Mills’ Lacie Dorman scratched from the 1A girls’ long jump.
2A girls’ discus
It was a rough day at the state meet for Marlin’s Tamariah Manigo and Troy’s Stephanie Rauch, as between them they could muster only five legal attempts in the Class 2A girls discus.
Manigo placed fifth with a toss of 120 feet, 10 inches on her third attempt. She had foot fouls on her first, fifth and sixth tries.
Rauch went 110 feet, 5 inches on her second attempt for seventh place, but fouled on her last four tries.
Emily Edwards of Cisco won with a best of 132-11.
2A boys’ high jump
Chad Seale of McGregor placed fifth in the Class 2A high jump at the state meet today in Austin.
Seale had a best of 6 feet, 4 inches.
Josh Commiato cleared 6-8 to win the event. Jesslie Johnston of Vanderbilt Industrial was second at 6-7.
2A boys’ discus
Two Central Texas discus competitors in Class 2A finished just out of the medals at state.
Kody Johnston of Crawford was fourth and Luke Randolph of Troy came in fifth at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Johnston threw 150 feet, 6 inches on his first legal throw for his best distance.
Randolph began with a 149-10 toss, then had a couple of 148-footers before fouling on his last three attempts.
Idalou’s Sean Reagan handily won the event, with no foul-free toss of less than 169 feet. He launched his winning 181-7 toss on his final attempt.
1A boys’ pole vault
Blair Severson of Holland took gold at the UIL State Track and Field Championships in Austin in Class 1A in the pole vault, clearing 14 feet, 3 inches.
That was 3 inches better than Hewitt Holmes of Iraan.
Meridian’s Dalton Strickland tied with Daniel Kirby of Era for sixth place. Both cleared 13 feet.
1A girls’ pole vault
Central Texas had three girls competing the Class 1A pole vault, and Evant’s Sarah Vann medaled with a third-place showing.
Van cleared 10 feet even, edging out Thorndale’s Jaynellen Stokes for the bronze medal because Stokes needed two attempts to clear that height.
Itasca’s Megan Goff tied for fifth with Falls City’s Amanda Pruski at 9 feet, 6 inches. Blum’s Stefani McClain had more misses at that height and finished seventh.
1A 3200-meter races
Logan Mynar of Kopperl placed second in the Class 1A boys’ 3,200-meter race at the University Interscholastic League State Track and Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Mynar finished in 10 minutes, 1.1 seconds for the silver medal. Jonathan Lira of Plains won with a time of 9:57.88.
Riesel’s Colton Dieterich placed seventh in the eight-man field in 10:28.22.
In the 1A girls competition, Wortham’s Ashley Rhoades was eighth in 13:41.78.
The event was won by Laurie Byrd of Round Top-Carmine in 11:18.88.
2A boys’ 3200
Crawford distance runner Chase Rathke won the bronze medal in the Class 2A 3,200-meter run this morning at the UIL State Track and Field Championships in Austin.
The top three runners finished in less than 10 minutes, with Rathke crossing the finish line in 9 minutes, 58 seconds.
Nathan Collier of Pottsboro won with a time of 9:31.60 while White Oak’s Spenser Lynn had a time of 9:43.01 for second place.
