Officers uncover meth lab in Gatesville area
Coordinated work between the Gatesville Police Department and the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office uncovered a methamphetamine lab in the Gatesville area, leading to the arrest of two people, with a third still on the lam.
Information gathered by investigators led to a search warrant being executed on Tuesday at 511 Mountain Road in the South Mountain area of Coryell County, said Coryell County Sheriff Johnny Burks.
A search of that residence and the surrounding area turned up “various components and key chemical precursors used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine,” Burks said. Some of the chemicals were already processed.
Initial tests on some of the evidence came back positive for meth, according to Burks, and felony warrants were issued for Douglas Wayne Herring, 25, and Sunny Nicole Herring, 33, both of Gatesville, along with Michael Allen Walker, 27, of Jones County, Texas.
The Herrings were arrested in Palo Pinto County on Wednesday, but Walker fled the scene of the search as law enforcement officials approached the home and is still on the loose, Burks said.
Both Herrings are being held in the Palo Pinto County Jail, awaiting transport to Coryell County, charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance over four grams but less than 200 grams, a first-degree felony, according to Burks.
Walker will face the same charge when captured, the sheriff said.
