Bellmead City Council calls special meeting on possible discipline against city manager after accident in city vehicle

The Bellmead City Council has called a special meeting for tomorrow to consider possible disciplinary actions against City Manager Scooter Radcliffe after he was involved in a one-vehicle accident in a city vehicle three weeks ago.

Radcliffe suffered slight injuries and was taken to a local hospital by ambulance on his way home from church on the morning of May 3, said Bellmead Police Chief Bob Harold.

Harold said Radcliffe reported that he swerved to miss a cat or a squirrel in the 3100 block of Wheeler Street, over-corrected his steering and then struck a telephone pole and a chain-link fence about 11:50 a.m.

The city-owned Chevrolet Suburban that Radcliffe was driving sustained an estimated $12,000 in damages, Harold said.

The city council is expected to conduct an executive session in which it will “deliberate the employment, evaluation, reassignment, discipline or duties of” the city manager, according to its agenda. Also listed is an item where the council is scheduled to consult with its attorney “regarding confidential legal matters.”

In open session, the agenda states that the council could discuss and possibly take action “regarding employment matters relating to city manager.”

Radcliffe did not return phone messages to his office or cell phone Tuesday.

It is about time, the good ole boy network of Bellmead comes to an end. “He swerved to miss a cat or a squirrel, Does the City Manager know the differnce? What a joke?

Was he given a drug test?

Was he asked to take a breathalyzer test?

If not why? WHY??

There is a new day dawning in Bellmead, and all must be held accountable for their actions inlcuding those in power. Just as we the voters got rid of a lazy, do nothing, city council member. We are tired of the politics of the pasts.

IT IS TRULY TIME FOR SCOOTER TO SCOOT!

FYI- the city of Woodway is looking for an animal control officier!!

Go find some other job to not do and get a check!!!!

I don’t live in Bellmead, but I have to wonder why a Chevy Suburban is really a necessity for city government.

If a city employee was using a city vehicle for personal use (A Sunday Morning) this I would think is stilling from us the citizens of Bellmead. Mr. Radcliffe should be let go for his theft of public property and charges filled against him. This matter needs to go also to the County Attorney I would think.

Does anyone here really believe that City Manager Radcliffe attends a church???

I would like for someone to come post on here that they have seen Scooter at a Church. I think the police department got it a little wrong, he was going home from **Church’s Chicken. The currently have an 8 piece special (legs and thighs) for $6.99.

I thought he was a poor police chief, and the only job he does worse than police chief is city manager.

I think the Citizens of Bellmead should demand an accounting of what the city provides the city manager, as well as an audit of any spending he has authorized without the councils approval!

Bye Scooter..I think you should have been fired years ago along with that crony police chief Bob Harold. How can someone be promoted to Lieutenant with a Basic Peace Officer Licnese. Ill tell you, look at the color of skin. I do not usually start this, but a lot of good cops were passed over for that position. BOB, HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY JUSTIFY PROMOTING OVER YEARS AND YEARS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPIERENCE, HMMM YOU CANT CAN YOU. I think we need to evaluate the system in Bellmead. It’s time for the Citizens to ask for accountability. Scooter allows this type of action. If we look at his contract with the City, he more than likely has permission to use the vehicle on his off time. I think that should not be allowed unless on call for emergencies only. Its time Bellmead stand up like the Citizens in Hewitt have. Support you law enforcement officers, but not the leaders. By Bob Harold, Bye James Barton…RETIRE you old cronies.

As a former employee of Bellmead I can tell you without doubt, any other employee who causes 12K in damage to a city vehicle would be terminated and it would not have taken this long for it to happen. Scooter has been the city miss-manager for too long he should go. Instead of being on the news bragging about not raising taxes for ump-teen year’s maybe he should have been raising taxes a little, paying people what they are worth and surrounding himself with a better quality of employee. I posted this as nameless not because I am a coward but because Scooter and other city staffers are evil and vindictive. I have no doubt my current job would be sabotaged if my name was posted. That’s how they do it in Bellmead.. Rule by intimation, knee-jerk reactions , and p** poor attitudes….I’m wishing the best of luck to the folks that have stuck it out over there hopefully your day has come, and you will start being paid what your worth and treated with the respect you deserve.

After sleeping on it, I think there always something crooked going on in Bellmead…So I think that council should just clean house, get rid of , Scooter, Harold, Karl, Grishm, and that lady who handles the money… If you want a fresh start you have to get rid of scooters croneys too! Oh and Chief Harold you are sworn to protect, serve and uphold the law…Not protect, serve and uphold the law except your boss!

Man there is a lot of venom in these comments, then again I guess anybody who has been a city manager for more than 5 minutes is going to make some enemies.

Scooter is a great asset to the city of Bellmead. I’ve had the opportunity to work with him a few times before and he really goes out of his way to promote making Bellmead a better place.

Hopefully the city council will keep him. It seems silly to even be entertaining the idea of dismissing or reassigning him for having a car accident. Accidents happen.

As for the person commenting on why he even had a city vehicle; this is normal practice when a job requires someone to go places while on the clock. You either give them a vehicle or you have to pay for mileage. Imagine if you took a job and your boss made you drive all over town without paying any of your car expenses.
