Highway 6 accident update: Driver identified

This just in from Trib staff writer Tim Woods:

A Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman said the driver killed in today’s crash on State Highway 6 was 17-year-old China Spring student Alex Reed.

Emergency units were called to the fiery wreck just before noon today after Reed’s car crashed into an overpass support at Speegleville Road, a Waco Fire Department spokesman said.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, within five minutes of the call, they found the car in flames and pulled Reed from the vehicle before it became engulfed.

Reed was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, where he died of his injuries, a DPS spokesman confirmed.

Northbound traffic was diverted onto the frontage road for several hours after the crash.

Well.. Alex Reed.. how do you begin! He was awesome and everyone loved him! When i first met him he was giving me such a hard time ha. And he was showing me how to play disk golf, which i didnt even know was a sport. He was so cute and so funny. He said he knew who i was the first day i moved to china spring but was always to scared to talk to me. He told me that he told all of his friends that one day he was goin to date me… And well since the day we met we hung out everyday! I always had so much fun with him! I would always say, “Alex you are crazy?” and he would say “Yea crazy for you!” He made me smile so much and i loved that kid! Alex and his family is in my heart. I love all of you guys and if you need anything just let me know. Alex may not be here but he is watching and he will be with us everywhere. WE LOVE YOU ALEX!
