Fire burns Waco city bus
A small Waco Transit Bus carrying disabled passengers caught on fire this afternoon, prompting an emergency evacuation of the vehicle.
Around 4 p.m., bus driver Angela Forge said she was driving along Richland Drive towards Valley Mills when the smoke appeared from the front of the bus. She pulled over into a parking lot at the intersection of Richland Drive and Edmond Avenue and ushered the two passengers on board off the bus.
“We were standing to the side, and flames started coming form the bottom of the bus where the wires are at,” Forge said. “And from there, the fire just spread across the whole bus.”
Forge and the two passengers were not injured. A second bus was brought to the scene to take the passengers home.
Asst. Waco Fire Chief Chris Pechacek said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
This is the second small Waco Transit bus that has caught fire in recent months. Last year, a bus carrying one passenger on the Marlin/”Success for Six” bus route caught on fire Sept 18. on State HIghway 6. No one was injured in that incident.
