So when does a drought end?
There’s a chance for rain today and the Central Texas area could use more precipitation for agriculture efforts as well as our lawns, but as this release from Texas A&M University shows, determining just when a drought is over isn’t that easy.
We had 1.66 inches of rain from last weekend’s weather system, but some places to our south and east got a lot more. Stock tanks at my mother’s property in Fayetteville (near La Grange and Brenham) were overflowing after that same rain event because 8 inches fell there.
The state’s Drought Joint Information Center has a new multi-agency, comprehensive drought information Web site, http://agrilife.tamu.edu/drought that could be beneficial to farmers, ranchers and anyone interested in following drought conditions.
