Five McLennan County runners complete Boston Marathon
Five McLennan County marathon runners finished the Boston Marathon Monday, according a check of the searchable database at bostonmarathon.org, which I thought was pretty cool considering there were about 23,000 runners in the event from all over the world.
You could actually track the runners during the race as they reached certain checkpoints, such as five and 10 kilometers, the halfway point, etc.
The top finisher among the local runners was Nancy Goodnight of McGregor, who completed the 26.2-mile course in a personal-best 3 hours, 30 minutes and 17 seconds. She was the 7,359th person to cross the finish line, the 1,231st woman, and was 159th in the women’s 40-44 age division.
Longtime marathoner Cliff Burgess, 70, of Hewitt came in 41st in his men’s 70-74 age group with a time of 4:34:43. He was the 12,103rd man to cross the finish line and was No. 19,969 overall.
Maura Burgard of McGregor finished in 4:29:50 for 1,435th place in the women’s 40-44 age group. Marcey Futris of Waco had a 4:34:15 clocking for 1,272th place in the women’s 45-49 age group. Finishing one place behind her in that division was Mariana Garrison of Woodway, who had a time of 4:35:36 and was the 19,992nd runner to finish.

I am very proud of them all and that is a wonderful conquest.
My hope is that their names were registered correctly, if at all, if they had timing chips, that they worked and grateful that they had their times monitored at all.
I am an avid runner and am so very disappointed in the outcome of Saturday’s Race for the Cure. The money raised is worth the cause, but my 30.00 was also for a timed race that I still do not know the outcome of! If it is important enough to post 1000 pictures of I would hope that it is important enough to post times somewhere.
