Dawson 17-year-old hurt after slamming into 18-wheeler
A 17-year-old Dawson girl is being treated today in the surgical intensive care unit at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center after highway authorities say she drove at speeds close to 70 mph into the back of a stopped 18-wheeler.
Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Travis Ballew said that just after 3 p.m. Monday, Jeana Cote was traveling in a 1995 Buick Regal on State Highway 31 just east of Hubbard when she apparently did not see traffic stopped because of road construction.
He said despite highway signs alerting drivers to the construction, Cote did not slow down, and slammed into the back of a stopped 18-wheeler driven by 52-year-old Jeffry Harris of Mineola. Harris was not injured.
Cote was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center to be treated for a head injury, Ballew said. No other information was available.
