Autopsy awaited in man killed by pickup in Milam County

Milam County officials today are waiting for the results of the autopsy of a 19-year-old Thorndale student, who they say was struck and killed by a pickup truck Friday night while walking on the side of the road.

The driver of the pickup, officials say, did not stop and help Rudolfo Carranza because he told troopers that he thought he had struck a deer. Carranza’s body was found Saturday morning along the side of Farm-to-Market 486 just north of Thorndale.

A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman in Bryan said David Jeter of Rockdale was northbound on F.M. 486 in a 2005 Dodge pickup truck at about 8:45 p.m. Friday, veered off the roadway, and struck Carranza. The spokesman did not have Jeter’s age or occupation.

Information as to how officials tied Jeter to Carranza’s death Saturday morning was unavailable.

Milam County Justice of the Peace Gary Northcott declined comment today because of the pending investigation by the Milam County Sheriff’s Office and DPS.

Hernandez Funeral Home in Rosenberg is waiting for the autopsy to be completed before scheduling funeral services, said a spokeswoman with the home.

No information as to where Carranza attended school was available.

Thought he hit a deer? Veered off the road? He didn’t stop to look if it damaged his truck? Sounds fishy!

I’m with the other blogger…didn’t stop and check damage? However, 8:45p is pretty early, not to be thinking clearly. Why was the guy walking on a farm-to-market road after dark? Will be interesting to see what the details reveal.

A deer usually jumps out in the road at the oncoming vehicle. I agree with Ratso. It sounds fishy.
