Watch out for those winds in Waco

If you haven’t stepped outside yet today … and really, would you want to? … dress warmly. While the skies are sunny, we’re only headed for a high near 56 degrees with a stiff north wind between 25 and 30 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Soccer practice this afternoon is not gonna be fun.

Still, you would not have thought it windy enough to do this damage, which was sent to us this morning by Axtell resident Bob Brown (click to enlarge). That is at the CitiTrends shopping center in Bellmead, better known as the former Eastgate Shopping Center on Bellmead Drive. It’s going to be a little harder to learn the new name when it’s flapping to the side of the marquee.

Those winds should remind us that we are under a red flag warning until 8 tonight with the danger of wildfires because of the wind, low humidity and dry conditions.

Tonight, we’ll have clear skies, with a low around 27. Those wind will still be out of the north-northwest wind 20 to 25 mph decreasing to between 10 and 15 mph. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

Before you comment, please take a few moments to make sure that what you're saying is civil and respectful. We don't tolerate personal attacks, insults, name-calling, impersonations or generally hateful comments — they don't make for a pleasant (or productive) conversation. We want to raise the level of debate and encourage a wide diversity of viewpoints — and that means disagreeing without being disagreeable. If you wouldn't say it to your grandmother, you probably shouldn't say it here.
