La Vega football star released from jail on $15,000 bond
La Vega High School football star Christopher Parr is out of the McLennan County Jail on $15,000 bond.
Parr, 17, was arrested at school Tuesday and charged with burglary of a habitation. Two months ago, prosecutors dropped charges against Parr in connection with an August aggravated robbery arrest.
Waco police say Parr burglarized a unit just after midnight Dec. 16 at the Oak Tree Apartments, 800 Rambler Drive. They say several pair of shoes, jewelry, an iPod Touch and an Xbox game console was stolen.
A witness pointed to Parr in a photo line-up.
La Vega Head Coach Willie Williams told officers that his star running back had tried to sell him an iPod around the time of the burglary.

What a tragedy to have swayed off course in your young years of life. So much promising things were in front of you. As a very talented football player of LaVega Pirates, you went astray, as so many other young students have done. With thoughts of attending Notre Dame U. and playing football for them, your actions took this possibility away from you. I hate to say it, but, as so many others have done, it might be “par” for the course. It’s not too late to possibly turn your life arouond, but your firm commitment to good, honest citizenship in the future might be your salvation. Here’s hoping it comes to pass.

I don’t believe this young man will ever change his ways if he is never punished. I believe that teachers and coaches from his school are to be blamed for his behavior. He has been in trouble before but people look the other way. There have been many athletes in the past that constantely got in trouble with the law and always found a way out of trouble because well meaning people did not know better.

You know you can blame who ever you want. The teachers that turned a blind eye to their star players misbehavior, his parents for not teaching him right from wrong, the victim for not placing his belongings on the porch with a sign “free for the taking”, or even the witness that picked him out of a lineup. Ultimately though the person truly at fault here is Christopher Parr. He’s responsible for his own actions.
For too long now we have allowed people with some type of talent, be they athletes, musicians or actors, get away with anything and everything simply because they have talent at something that entertains us. They have come to feel they are entitled to special treatment because of that talent. Sadly many of us have come to believe that as well. It’s time to hold them accountable for their actions. Just like any other poor slob that doesn’t have these talents.

Once again Mr. Parr doesn’t have the ability to make good decisions. BUT……how can we blame him when Willie Williams, La Vega administration, and school board made the choice to allow him to play the last four games in the play offs. No doubt, it’s his fault….he makes his own choices. However, when we turn our heads the other way and put sports before life, it usally turns out this way. Besides the fact that it was unfair to the others on the team. It will be interesting to see if Mr. Parr steps on the field next year. WHAT A WASTE! Most people would give anything to have the athletic talent Parr possesses in his left pinky. Okay La Vega addministration, board, and Willie…..we are all watching.
