Four killed in collision on State Highway 6
Waco police say four people were killed in a head-on collision tonight on State Highway 6 near Bosque Boulevard.
About 8:25 p.m. a Chevrolet pickup was going west on Highway 6 near the Bosque Boulevard overpass when for unknown reasons it left the road, crossing the grass median and a metal barrier before going into oncoming traffic, said Waco Police Department spokesman Steve Anderson. The pickup struck an eastbound Toyota 4-Runner head-on.
The crumpled white SUV was left unrecognizable by the force of the impact.
Two women and two men were in the vehicles, and all were pronounced dead at the scene, Anderson said, though he was unsure who many were in each vehicle. Two of the people had been thrown from the vehicles in the collision, he said.
All four were adults, Anderson said. He was unsure if any were wearing seatbelts.
Police had only identified one of the victims as of late tonight, using a driver’s license the victim was carrying. That person’s name was not being released until family members had been notified, Anderson said.
The wreck caused police to shut down Highway 6 from about 8:30 p.m. Anderson said once accident investigators finish their work it was to be reopened, likely before dawn.

There are few times that an accident just accidentally happens…like it’s “God’s will”.
Accidents happen because drivers are distracted and not paying attention to the road.
As long as drivers use their vehicles as a phone booth and entertainment center, people will either die or be injured needlessly.

While I agree that drivers may irresponsibly talk on phones and/or be too concerned with in-car media centers and that often times those distractions do result in tragedy, I would hesitate before pegging the cause of this wreck on any particular driver mistake or circumstance. For all we know, the driver of this vehicle could have been stricken with a heart attack, severe stroke, or any number of devastating medical conditions that can strike without a moment’s notice, leaving its victim powerless or even result in instant death. That being said, in the extremely raw wake of this accident, let’s place blame aside and just take a moment to pray for the friends and families of these victims who will undoubtedly be in need of the love and support of all those who are willing to give it.

I wish that some law enforcement agency in the area would work more traffic details in this area. If not Waco PD, MCSO, or DPS. I go through on a regular basis and never see anyone out monitoring speeds. Same for IH-35 around West and Waco. Stop worrying about p** people off and save some lives.

That’s very sad. How do you cross over the barrier at full speed without being consciously aware?
Wow, a lot of deaths have happened right there this year, alone…
Drive safely.
God Bless.

I think that the Editor of the Waco Trib should take a long hard look at what news articles he allows comments to be made after, mainly because of some of the comments that are left by people who evidently do not care about other peoples feelings. My prayers are with the families of this horrible accident.

There is very little traffic enforcement by the Waco Police Department. I see people speeding and driving reckless all the time in Waco. The horrible accidents will continue as long as Waco PD does nothing to enforce traffic laws.

My prayers are with the families and friends for all of these lives lost… especially to the father and young brother who stood by the fence at every china spring baseball game to cheer for this talented and friendly young man, who will be missed by so many people in this community.
