Campaign music hits wrong note with another performer
Now the McCain-Palin campaign has got under the skin of rocker Nancy Wilson of the group Heart for taking its hit “Barracuda” and making it vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s anthem at the convention.
Wilson is not happy about it, and is asking the campaign to cease and desist its use.
It is a rockin’ song, as you can see and hear in this YouTube video.
Remember earlier that McCain’s campaign drew the ire of Jackson Browne for using his “Running on Empty” song without Browne’s permission. Apparently there’s also a bit of a stir over the Obama campaign’s use of country stars Brooks & Dunn’s “Only in America” after Obama’s acceptance speech. Seems that song was played by Brooks & Dunn at President Bush’s inauguration in 2000 and used again at the 2004 GOP convention.
So now politics and music make strange bedfellows.

Typical. It would never occur to this bunch to ask permission to use someone else’s creative property. When you’re a fat cat, you don’t feel the need to ask anyone’s permission; if it’s there, it must be yours to use as you see fit, right?
No wonder our nation is in such a shambles.

If they purchased the track or the entire CD, what is wrong with playing it? If it was downloaded illegally and then broadcast, that would be a problem. An artist has no right to tell me when and where I can or cannot play the purchased music.
This country is full of stupid people.

Papdadio and especially you Mikey….now you know how I feel when I took the initiative to start my own business and there are free-loaders out there wanting a hand-out in the welfare line. Democraps never asked permission to take my hard earned money and give it to the low lifes and illegals who are looking for hand-outs. Isn’t it funny how everyone wants to make more money, but when someone makes more than you do, it is too much? SHUT UP and make something of yourselves, you whiners!

In regards to just “playing a CD”…
There are copyright laws in place that cover public broadcasting of music. It’s a different ‘term of service’ than private listening. So no, you can’t simply play a CD for a large convention. Much like you can’t legally put “music on hold” for your business phone system by plugging a radio or CD player in to your PBX. You can be taken to court by any number of agencies (ASCAP, etc) for such violations.
If the artist did not give their permission for a public broadcast of the song, then yes, they have the right to tell them to stop it or face legal repercussions.

Who really goes for voting for VPs anyway? It’s good to know something about them but we vote for presidents.
Don’t want to get too political here but McCain pulled this one truly out his a**. So desperate….WOW! Scary.
