McCain picks little-known Alaska governor for VP
John McCain tapped Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a conservative who shares his maverick streak, to be the Republican vice presidential running mate today in a startling selection on the eve of the Republican National Convention.
In an announcement, McCain’s campaign said that Palin, who has been governor less than two years, “has the record of reform and bipartisanship that others can only speak of.
“Her experience in shaking up the status quo is exactly what is needed in Washington today,” the announcement said.
Palin, 44, is a self-styled hockey mom and political reformer who has been governor of her state less than two years.
Palin’s selection was a stunning surprise, as McCain passed over many other better known prospects, some of whom had been the subject of intense speculation for weeks or months.
At 44, she is a generation younger that Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, who is Barack Obama’s running mate on the Democratic ticket.
She is three years Obama’s junior, as well — and McCain has made much in recent weeks of Obama’s relative lack of experience in foreign policy and defense matters.
The February 2008 issue of Alaska magazine (shown at right) had her on its cover, touting her as “America’s Hottest Governor.” For whatever that’s worth.

I can’t wait to see someone try to defend McCain on this one! Now who’s got poor judgment! This guy just handed Obama the election. Yay!

Seems the Republicans just ended McCain’s presidential bid. This is only a move to obtain the women vote since Clinton is not in the running anymore. Low move by the Republicans.

Let’s see the Democrats run down a working class mom as VP candidate. Even as a governor for less than two years she has more executive government experience than Barack Obama. Obama is running on a campaign of change and new ideas in Washington. He then chooses a lifelong politician as his running mate and McCain offers a choice that is truly a new voice.I think I may like her as VP better than I have liked McCain as Presidential candidate.

To “Hillarious” and the wimp who wouldn’t use his name, you both couldn’t be more wrong.
Sarah Palin is only unknown to the sleeping idiots in the media who were blind-sided by McCain’s “eleventh-hour” selection. I’ve been talking about Sarah Palin as McCain’s pick for months, and she has been at the top of his short list from the beginning. Trust me on this one.
Palin is a tough, unabashedly conservative, outside-the-beltway politician who will wipe the floor with the messianic moron who the Loony Left is fawning over.
Sarah is going to come out swinging and she will expose Obamarama for what he really is: an arrogant, inexperienced sissy who has no business being president of these United States.
Mark my words. BHO and Bitter Biden don’t stand a chance against the McCain-Palin machine.
Besides, she’s the only one in the race with actual executive experience. Being a community organizer from Chicago is not executive experience.
And in 2012, we’re going to see the most unbelievable match-up in American political history when Vice President Palin runs head-to-head against Hitlery to see which woman will actually be the first woman POTUS.
Then, too, it will be President Palin, as the PIAPS (pig in a pants suit) gets defeated again.
Hold on! It’s going to be a great ride!!
Cheers!

As someone whose home state is only 3 miles from Russia at its nearest point, her perspective on US foreign policy should add a really interesting dimension to the upcoming national dialogue.

So that’s what you got from your Vanguard eduction, the ability to name call and regurgitate Republican talking points? No wonder you feel more comfortable sticking around in Waco with the rest of the uninformed sheep.

lol @ H
I wouldn’t call Attas little post a “rational discussion”. It is just the party line with 25% more name calling. It is really typical of Waco’s mind set and we see how well it works.
Keep going guys with forward thinking like this we can be the number one poorest city in Texas!

LITTLE KNOWN ALASKA GOVERNOR FOR VP?
Little known? Don’t you people read the national press? I guess you get your “knowledge” from reading the Trib and MOVE-ON.ORG. That would explain your lack of knowledge and perspective.

If you are going to post in a public forum please learn to write in complete sentences. Learning how to spell would be a good idea also.

Dear Seriously, My Vanguard education taught me how to think for myself and challenge the status quo. That’s why I left Waco to start college in Colorado and why I came back to get a philosophy degree from Baylor. It’s also why I’ve lived in 5 states and 3 countries, so I’m not sure how that “sticking around Waco” label will “stick.”
And the whole name-calling thing is just a favorite pasttime of mine, like when I call Obambi a narcissistic socialist or a Marxist in liberal’s clothing. However, I generally refrain from ad hominem attacks against people I don’t know, like you for instance. I’d much rather debate you on substance, but you don’t seem to have any, so I guess we’re at an impasse.
However, nothing I have said about or called Barack Hussein Obama is untrue, and I can back up everything I say with cold, hard facts.
Dear Lovely, Seriously? I’m actually embarrassed for you. In the future, when you think about posting your thoughts for the world to see, don’t.
Dear Elizabeth, If you knew anything about me, you would know that I’m the furthest thing from the party line, but I know a strong candidate when I see one. I’ve been studying Palin since early 2007 after she assumed the governorship in late 2006. I’ve watched her become the most popular governor in the country with an approval rating bouncing around 90%. She’s very fiscally conservative and she has no tolerance for governmental corruption, even that in her own party.
When did you first hear about Sarah Palin? Was it in the last 24 hours? I thought so. Keep quiet.
Please tell me how supporting a presidential candidate whom even the liberal press describe as being a maverick, and his FEMALE running mate is not forward thinking?
The Obamarama Express wanted change so badly they tapped one of the longest-serving members of Congress to really shake things up in Washington. I’m sorry, what?
The next two months are going to be great! McCain & Palin are going to destroy Barry and Joey.

Rock on Attas! Biden was a horribly weak choice for Obama-bin laden, and Sarah Palin was flippin’ brilliant! I got a plain ole’ Waco ISD education, and I too, am able to think for myself, and not swallow party-line “pap”, such as it is. You eat your popcorn, I’ll chew on some Jelly Bellies, and we’ll have a rockin’ good time!

Welcome to America, and thank-god we have the right to vote. I won’t be voting for Ms. Palin. As a conservative Republican who is pro-life and thinks creationism really should be taught in schools…no thanks, I’ll go with the Dem’s on this one. Face it, either way we go, we are “Screwed in ‘08”
