School board president tears up on stand at Wiley hearing
Waco school board president David Schleicher teared up as he testified today in a hearing on a temporary injunction to keep G.L. Wiley Middle School open. The judge ordered a lunch recess soon after Schleicher took the stand.
Schleicher, who voted against closure along with two other board members, was the second defense witness to take the stand in Judge Jim Meyer’s courtroom. Meyer agreed last week to a temporary restraining order that opened Wiley this week despite the board’s voting to close it Aug. 7.
The board voted again Monday to close the school, but the injunction hearing will determine whether the campus remains open while a lawsuit brought by a community group and parents proceeds. The suit alleges racial discrimination was a factor in the move to close the school, which has been rated unacceptable by the state for five years.
Though much has been made of racial discrimination so far in the hearing, which began Tuesday, the plaintiffs’ last witness, board member Larry Perez, said on the stand this morning he didn’t think racism entered into the decision.
Asked by the plaintiffs’ attorneys whether Perez thought racism entered into the decision to close Wiley, Perez said no, he wouldn’t call it racism.
The defense followed Perez’s testimony with testimony from Marsha Ridlehuber, assistant superintendent for accountability and instruction. She also, answering a question from the defense, said that she didn’t think racism had anything to do with the decision to close Wiley.
Ridlehuber also elaborated on the plan that would have closed Meadowbrook, which came up last year. The attorneys have been holding up the decision not to close Meadowbrook as an injustice to Wiley. She said the plan to reconfigure grades in the district was tabled before Meadowbrook parents ever spoke to the board at the February meeting.

Tears from the school board president? How do you say “Girlie Man’? GIVE ME A BREAK! Bet this guy is a card carrying Dumbocrat, Femi-Nazi, FOH (Friend of Hussein, The Chosen One).
This nutjob should seek help from Coble’s shrink before he goes “postal” at a school board meeting or on campus. He’s just another reason we need CCL on campus!!!

I think it’s admirable that David had courage to show how heartfelt he is about the situation. There’s nothing wrong with a man crying, and it often takes the bravest and strongest of them all to do so - especially in public. Bravo, David Schleicher!!!

Schleicher’s a lawyer, trained from birth to twist the truth & cry on cue. If he’s REALLY this emotional about the closing of a sub-standard government propaganda mill, can you imagine how he might react to a REAL tradgedy in his life, like the death of a relative or close friend?
If he’s REALLY man enough to cry, then he should be man enough to seek some counseling about his overactive feminine side & possible horomone therapy.

He cried? And this means what. He needs to cry over the fact that 27% percent of the students at Wiley are tagged Special Education and the rest are not learning very much. Now there is something to cry about. “Why you cryin’?”

I can not believe the rantings of Notwhole. It really makes me value the importance of a good education. This should help distill the lack of knowledge displayed by persons such as Notwhole. Crying does not mean a man is less of a man. It means he feels and is sensitive. I admire his caring. Notwhole, you might consider seeing a shrink. Maybe it will make you feel and act more whole.I am not worried about Schleicher going postal. I am worried about you. You are scary. BH I am working hard to tolerate you. It is hard. I am not worried about

President Schleicher was probably crying of joy that the un caring parents and the un performance school will soon be closed forever and then he can move on to better items for education.
I also like to know how much money was wasted on this court hearing?

But boy o boy were they ever poor, poor ! Now ‘THAT’ makes me cry …. I could’t get out of Dodge fast enough. Waco never changes.

Anne Hathaway finally got smart. The “Devil Wears Prada” star has ditched her Italian rapscallion boyfriend after four years of suffering through his innumerable brushes with scandal and bad publicity, it was reported yesterday. Hathaway finally decided to part ways with shady real-estate peddler Raffaello Follieri because of the effect his business dealings could have on her blooming career, the Daily Mail of London reported. “It’s heartbreaking for her to dump him, and she’s devastated that it’s come to this, but she really didn’t have a choice. His scandals were hurting her reputation,” the paper quoted an unnamed source close to Hathaway, who stars in “Get Smart,” which opens Friday. A source familiar with the situation told The Post, “Her dad has hired PIs and has been after her for a while to do it.” Hathaway’s spokesman declined to comment on the report. Follieri was in Italy yesterday and could not be reached for comment. His spokeswoman did not return calls. The split comes a little more than a week after The Post revealed that state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo was investigating Follieri’s charitable foundation. Hathaway had, until recently, sat on its board of directors. The 29-year-old shyster was also arrested in April for allegedly kiting a $215,000 check to a New Jersey real-estate magnate. The charges were later dropped after Follieri made good on the rubber check. He has also been sued by California supermarket mogul Ron Burkle in Delaware courts over a multimillion-dollar joint real-estate venture that went sour. Burkle accused Follieri in a civil suit of misusing some $55 million from the venture, in which they planned to make money buying and reselling properties owned by the Catholic Church. The money allegedly funded a lavish jet-set lifestyle that helped catch the eye of Hathaway. They started dating in 2005. Follieri also recently battled in a Washington, DC, court with a PR firm that represented him during the Burkle entanglement. He was ordered to pay nearly $240,000 to the Carmen Group after he was found in default last December. He was also sued by a New Jersey private-jet service that claims Follieri’s joint venture with Burkle - Follieri Yucaipa Investments LLC - failed to pay $458,852 in chartering costs for nine flights between September 2007 and January 2008.
