Ex-Wiley school principal testifies at hearing

The second day of testimony in the temporary injunction hearing on the closing of Waco ISD’s G.L. Wiley Middle School got under way this morning with former Wiley principal Cleoda Bables taking the stand.

Bables spoke from his experience in education. The plaintiff’s attorney asked questions regarding the planning of the school year, when teachers receive assignments, and whether teachers who moved to other campuses late in the summer would be likely to get the assignments they wanted.

Bables also talked about the Wiley support group Fighting to Save Our Children, of which he is a member.

He flip-flopped on testimony regarding whether he felt racial discrimination was the reason the board voted to close Wiley, telling the plaintiff’s attorney that he felt race was a factor, but when asked a similar question by the defense he answered otherwise.

“I don’t know if it was racially based. I think it was against G.L. Wiley,” he said.

The Rev. Nika Davis of Second Missionary Baptist Church, who advocated against the closing of Wiley, was next on the witness stand.

Wow… REAL, you sound like a product of Wiley.

By READING IS FUNDAMENTAL

Real…Reading is fundamental. You should not have anything to say with all the missed spelled words, verb usage, and grammatical errors you used in your comment. My question to you is did you even attend school? Wiley could have helped you!! It bothers me to know that people sit in the seat of judgement and then make comments like yours and then have all the errors that you have, but yet can talk about what Mr. Ward needs to do. You need to take a back seat and an English course. All you said means nothing if the articulation of your message is incorrect. If an English class is too much for your mind to comprehend at this point, seeing that you are giving advice to the parents and students at Wiley, then copy and paste as Microsoft Word does an excellent job with usage, spelling and punctuation.

As an exstudent and employed of G. L. Wiley, to many people are laying the blame on the teachers. Education as a hold starts at home. Yes students are at under educational instruction for 40 hours a week and during this time it is the teachers duty to fine tune educational skills that have been taught at home. It is the administrations duty see that all students have seasoned teachers as well as first year teachers on all of the campuses. You can read between the lines. It think that G. L. Wiley has a historial place in East Waco community as well as an eduational place and a special place in the hearts of the East Waco Community. Give G. L. Wiley the well seasoned teachers it needs and see what this year will bring. It is not fair for Waco ISD Board to reopen G. L. Wiley just to close it before the 2008-2009 school year is over. Would you do that if the school was Lake Middle School, University Middle School, Ceasar Chavez Middle School or Tennyson Middle School. It is time for you to ask yourself, “What would God have us to do in this situation.

I do not think God has anything to do with this dilema. In my opinion, I say give the school one more year and tell the parents that if they do not meet the standards set forth, then the school will be shut down. Its Put Up or Shut Up time. You can not have it both ways.
