New research finds 136 died at Berlin Wall
New research released today before the anniversary of the Berlin Wall’s construction start date said 136 people lost their lives at the Cold War barrier that once divided the city — a small increase over previous estimates.
The study — based on the ongoing examination of hundreds of possible cases — adds three more people to the count, said Hans-Hermann Hertle, of the Potsdam Center for Historical Research, which is studying deaths at the border along with Berlin Wall Memorial.
