A flash flood watch remains in effect through 7 tonight for McLennan, Bell, Falls, Limestone, Hill and Bosque counties.

Storms weaken; watch canceled

UPDATE 6: The storm itself is passing through Waco now, having weakened considerably. The gust front from the storm remains a concern elsewhere and an advisory to that effect has been issued for Bell, Bosque and Coryell counties.

In fact, the storms have weakened sufficiently that the severe storm watch has just been canceled.

UPDATE 5: Various spotters around town are reporting 50 mph winds away from the storm, on what’s called the outflow boundary or gust front.

Meanwhile, a strong-storm advisory has been issued for Hill County:

AT 851 PM CDT…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE METEOROLOGISTS DETECTED A STRONG THUNDERSTORM 19 MILES SOUTHEAST OF HILLSBORO…MOVING SOUTHWEST AT 17 MPH.

CITIES IN THE PATH OF THIS STORM INCLUDE BYNUM AND HUBBARD.

PEA-SIZED HAIL…VERY HEAVY RAINFALL AND WIND GUSTS TO 50 MPH CAN BE EXPECTED FROM THIS STORM.

UPDATE 4: The severe thunderstorm warning for Limestone County has expired. The storm is moving into McLennan County; right now it’s classified as strong but not yet severe:

AT 838 PM CDT…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE METEOROLOGISTS DETECTED A STRONG THUNDERSTORM 11 MILES EAST OF BELLMEAD…MOVING WEST AT 30 MPH.

CITIES IN THE PATH OF THIS STORM INCLUDE BELLMEAD…BEVERLY HILLS… HALLSBURG…LACY-LAKEVIEW…MART…NORTHCREST…RIESEL…ROBINSON AND WACO.

PEA-SIZED HAIL…VERY HEAVY RAINFALL AND WIND GUSTS TO 50 MPH CAN BE EXPECTED FROM THIS STORM.

UPDATE 3: …A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 830 PM CDT FOR NORTHWESTERN LIMESTONE COUNTY…

AT 813 PM CDT…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE METEOROLOGISTS DETECTED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING PENNY SIZE HAIL…AND DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED 7 MILES SOUTHEAST OF COOLIDGE…BETWEEN LAKE MEXIA AND THELMA…MOVING SOUTHWEST AT 10 MPH.

UPDATE 2: …A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 830 PM CDT FOR NORTHWESTERN LIMESTONE COUNTY…

AT 749 PM CDT…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE METEOROLOGISTS DETECTED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING PENNY SIZE HAIL…AND DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED 6 MILES SOUTHWEST OF COOLIDGE…MOVING SOUTHWEST AT 15 MPH.

THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WILL BE NEAR… MUSTANG AT 800 PM CDT PRAIRIE HILL AT 810 PM CDT

UPDATE: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Limestone County:

  • AT 733 PM CDT…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE METEOROLOGISTS DETECTED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING PENNY SIZE HAIL…AND DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED NEAR COOLIDGE…AND MOVING SOUTHWEST AT 15 MPH.

  • THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WILL BE NEAR… RURAL NORTHWESTERN LIMESTONE COUNTY AT 750 PM RURAL WESTERN LIMESTONE COUNTY AT 810 PM

ORIGINAL TEXT: There’s a line of storms several counties to the east, headed this direction, and that’s prompted the Storm Prediction Center to issue a severe thunderstorm watch with McLennan County at the western edge. Whether that means we’ll actually get rain, dunno.
