A reprieve, sort of

UPDATE: The high today was 103.

ORIGINAL TEXT: The excessive heat watch has been dropped for the Waco area; the forecast for tomorrow and Monday has it less humid than earlier expected. It’ll still get pretty hot, though — a forecast high of 107 tomorrow and 104 Monday — so the heat advisory has been extended through Monday evening.

Hot and getting hotter

Today’s going to be hot and humid, and it’s going to get worse before it gets any better.

A National Weather Service heat advisory — signifying a heat index of 105 degrees or higher and a morning low that doesn’t drop below 78 — continues for the Waco area until tomorrow morning, when an excessive heat watch takes over until Monday evening.

The current expectation at the NWS Fort Worth office is that this afternoon they’ll upgrade that watch to an excessive heat warning, meaning the heat index is expected to be 110 or greater. The actual temperature will be bad enough: The forecast high is 105 tomorrow and 106 Monday.

The DFW area is already under an excessive heat warning.

Erin Quinn has more.
