Severe storms hit area

Update 3, 11 pm: Still some activity in western and southern McLennan County, but well below severe standards.

On those conflicting tornado reports: something tornadoish was reported at Fort Hood, but the thinking at the National Weather Service in Fort Worth is that it was likely a gustnado springing from the storm’s gust front rather than a proper tornado extending from the storm cloud’s base.

Update 2: NWS passing along emergency management reports of a roof blown off a mobile home in Leroy. We’re checking on that one. Law enforcement is also reporting trees blown down in Elm Mott. Meanwhile, the storm warning will be allowed to expire at 9:15.

Separately (and I’ll put up a separate post on this once the storm clears) a DFW-area heat advisory has been extended to include Waco. It’s in effect until10 pm Saturday.

Update: The storm warning for Bell and Coryell counties has expired, A flood advisory for Coryell County remains in effect until 10:45 pm. There are conflicting reports on whether a tornado accompanied this storm; also, trees were reported blown down near Pidcoke.

Meanwhile, the storm warning remains for McLennan County:
