Waco man sent to state hospital

A Waco man who was shot six times by police during a domestic disturbance in September has been sent to a state hospital in Vernon, Texas, for further psychiatric evaluation.

Noy Moten Jr. will be at Vernon State Hospital for a period not to exceed 120 days by order of Judge Matt Johnson in the 54th State District Court.

Moten, who was a gunner aboard a helicopter in Vietnam, has been diagnosed with chronic paranoid schizophrenia and post traumatic stress disorder.

According to police reports, he shot at officers responding to a domestic disturbance between Moten and his 62-year-old girlfriend in the 1100 block of J.J. Flewellen Road at 1 a.m. Sept. 27.

One officer was hit in the buttocks, but was treated and released from the hospital that night. Officers returned fire, hitting Moten six times. The 61-year-old was hospitalized for several days and indicted in December on attempted capital murder and aggravated assault on a peace officer charges.

Moten served two tours of duty with the Marines in Vietnam from 1964 to 1969, his attorney has said, adding that he was not treated for his PTSD.

Are Criminals really that easy to get off with a slap on the Wrist. This Guy “Moten” knew what he was doing, so why is he NOT going to Prison.??? He shot a Police-Officer, that in it self should be punishible with time in Prison.WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS LAW SYSTEM?

1st of all getting shot in the buttocks and being released hardly constitutes ” nearly killing ” and 2nd your stepson knew the oath he took upon joing the force. ask yourself this…had it not been your stepson, would you even care?????

Ok Sane Person, why dont you get shot and see if its not a near death experience to you!!! The fact is this guy shot a police officer who was doing his job. This guy also shot another person 4 months prior to this in the same block. If you want to live with this type of society then your mind set is about as good as his!!

The 120 day eval period is just to arrive at the man’s mental condition and establish a treatment regimen. Once treated till the doctors don’t think he needs to be in the Skull Ranch any longer, he’ll be remanded to the Court for trial. The appropriate weight of flesh will then be extracted.

Yes I would’ve cared even if it was’nt my Step-Son.Second, no matter the Oath, Police also have Lifes and Family and 3rd, if the Police Officer had turned the wrong way he COULD’VE gotten killed, but it’s People like you who don’t care about Cops or the Law Enforcement, it shows from the way you write.

Hey “Sane Person,” I hope you remember how much you hate us when your screamin on the phone cause someone is breakin into your house and you need us. We deal with some people like you all the time. While Mrosko was busy riskin his life you were probably callin the police wonderin why an officer hadnt shown up yet to take care of that litter violation. Some people just don’t get it. Hang in there Mrs. Mrosko. And “Sane Person,” I’m not afraid to leave my name. Feel free to complain on me if my words hurt your sensibilities. I’m sure that’s your style.

Now Damn!!!! You mean to tell me it took the Police Department six shots to bring an elderly man with psychiatric issues down!!! Come on now! With his one shot he got in he managed to shoot someone in the butt and it was posted in the paper. Dont you think is going to cause a little embarrassment to that officer????
