Victims in fatal accident in serious condition

A Waco man and a man from Magnolia, Texas, are in serious condition at hospitals this morning after a Tuesday accident near Bremond that killed a Gatesville man.

According to a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman, Ronnie Mack Barnard, 38, of Waco, was driving his southbound tractor-trailer at 11 a.m. Tuesday along State Highway 6 three miles northeast of Bremond when he veered into oncoming traffic.

Barnard’s semi sideswiped another tractor-trailer, driven by Harold Croft, of Dallas, and then struck a third tractor-trailer following behind the second, the spokesman said.

Barnard’s truck cab and the cab of the third semi, driven by Bobby Cox, 61, of Gatesville, hit head-on.

A 2008 Ford pickup truck driven by Alejandro Alvarado Trejo, 37, of Magnolia, Texas, rear-ended Cox’s tractor-trailer and burst into flames upon impact, the spokesman said.

Cox was killed instantly in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Frederick Webber, the spokesman said.

Barnard was taken to Scott & White Hospital in Temple where he was listed in serious condition this morning, a hospital representative said.

Trejo is in Parkland Hospital in Dallas, also in serious condition this morning, according to a hospital spokesman.

Croft was not injured.

Now there’s the headline of the day.

“Victims in fatal accident in serious condition”

Huh?

Not trying to make light of a horrible situation, but I too noticed the headline foible. Reminded me of a radio report I heard a few years ago about a fire and the reporter said, “No one was seriously killed.”
