BU administration overturns tenure denials for seven faculty members

By Tim Woods Tribune-Herald staff writer

Baylor University President John Lilley announced in an internal e-mail today that he and Provost Randall O’Brien granted tenure on appeal to seven of the 12 tenure candidates who were denied earlier this spring.

“As a result of new evidence submitted in the reconsideration process, this year 25 of the 30 faculty who applied for tenure will receive it,” Lilley wrote in the e-mail.

Originally, 12 of the 30 were denied, with Lilley’s administration pointing to substandard research viewed “through the lens of (Baylor) 2012” as the reason.

The e-mail did not name the candidates awarded tenure on appeal, but it has been confirmed that three of them are from the engineering department— Russ Duren, Randall Jean and Carolyn Skurla.

Now Lilley is scrambling to save his own hide? How does it feel Lilley? What goes around comes around……..or in Baptist terms: “Thou shalt Reap what one Sows”. Just a little karma keeps us all humble.
