Man killed when train hits semi in Robertson County
A 44-year-old truck driver is dead after the semi he was driving collided Thursday with an oncoming Union Pacific train in Robertson County.
A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman today said investigators are still looking into how the accident happened.
The spokesman said Samuel Lee Taylor of Willis was westbound in a 2005 Peterbilt semi truck on Hoxie Chapel Road just east of Easterly, when just before 4 p.m. Thursday he collided with a northbound train.
Taylor was ejected from the cab of the truck and pronounced dead at the scene. The cab was then destroyed by fire after colliding with the train.
The train’s engineer, David Allen Echols, 57, of Gilmer, Texas, and conductor Tony Swanson, 50, of Palestine both complained of minor injuries at the scene, the spokesman said.

I often wonder why the world is so full of hate and anger. Then I come across a individual like yourself. Who is so inhumane and self absorbed. You know there was a time in my life that your words could have hurt me, but after April 25,2008 at about 12:00am there is nothing that can compare. For you see this as an opportunity to be hateful and cowardly throw comments on the web. But you fail to realize the person that you are speaking of would have forgiven you for your stupidity and immediately began to offer you up to the Lord! So I being his rib stand before my father in heaven asking him to have mercy on you! And allow you to understand you also are Flesh! And yes there is a time set aside for you to answer for all of your actions here on earth! I just pray that you have time to repent.
