Waco to honor fishing champ Alton Jones

Just was sent this news release from one of local angler Alton Jones’ sponsors, Skeeter Products Inc., about Jones getting a day named after him. Here’s the release:

Skeeter’s Alton Jones will be honored by his hometown of Waco, Texas, having April 24 declared as “Alton Jones Day,” in celebration of his recent Bassmaster Classic victory, as well as the angler’s contributions both his hometown of Waco, and to the bass fishing industry.

“This was a surprise for Alton from the citizens of Waco,” says Bryan Carter, Manager of Waco’s Academy and Sports Outdoors store, and a close friend of Alton. “In addition to declaring April 24 as Alton Jones Day, we plan to unveil a billboard celebrating his Bassmaster Classic victory, showcasing our support for a true hometown hero,” says Carter. “Alton is an outstanding citizen, and we’re proud that he is from Waco.”

Carter added that the billboard is located on Interstate 35, just north of downtown Waco and the Brazos River. The City will host a luncheon at Legacy Outfitters on April 24 that is open to the public. Alton will be awarded an official certificate designating April 24 as “Alton Jones Day.”

For more information on attending the luncheon, visit www.legacyoutfitters.com, or call 254-399-9992.

Jones, a professional bass angler for 18 years, has 32 top-10 tournament finishes, including five victories. Jones fished in 10 previous Bassmaster Classics before his victory in 2008. The angler is already off to a strong start in the 2008 Elite Series, including a 6 th place finish in the “Citrus Slam” on Lake Kissimmee in Lake Wales, Florida.

Skeeter Products Inc. makes fishing and boating fun and rewarding with owner’s tournaments, tournament incentives, and a top-notch dealer network. Skeeter, celebrating its 60th Anniversary, manufactures innovative and high-performing bass, walleye, fish & ski and saltwater boats.

Skeeter is the recipient of six consecutive CSI customer satisfaction awards, and its boats are NMMA certified to meet strict U.S. Coast Guard and American Boat & Yacht Council standards. To order a catalog call (800) SKEETER, or visit www.skeeterboats.com.
