Frost tonight — and maybe a freeze
The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for the overnight hours:
A SIGNIFICANT FROST IS POSSIBLE TONIGHT AND EARLY MONDAY MORNING AS A COLD HIGH PRESSURE CENTER SETTLES INTO THE REGION. TEMPERATURES WILL FALL INTO THE 30S ACROSS MUCH OF NORTH TEXAS TONIGHT DUE TO VERY LIGHT WINDS AND CLEAR SKIES.
WHILE AIR TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN ABOVE FREEZING AT MOST LOCATIONS…FROST CAN FORM AT AIR TEMPERATURES AS WARM AS 38 DEGREES UNDER THE RIGHT CONDITIONS.
FROST CAN DAMAGE OR KILL COLD SENSITIVE VEGETATION THAT HAS NOT BEEN PROTECTED. RESIDENTS SHOULD PROTECT ANY TENDER PLANTS THAT HAVE RECENTLY BLOOMED OR BEEN PLANTED. COVERING THEM WITH A LIGHT BLANKET OR MOVING THEM BENEATH A COVERED PORCH SHOULD PROVIDE ENOUGH PROTECTION FROM THIS LATE SEASON COLD SPELL.
As the advisory notes, it doesn’t have to get down to freezing for frost to form — but we may get one: NWS expects a low of 33, and Weather Underground is calling for 32. (It should be noted that as of 11:30 am, the local TV stations and the Weather Channel were calling for a low of 37 or 38, and the AccuWeather forecast we use on wacotrib.com currently expects a low of 35.)
