Mardi Gras in Waco Saturday night
A quick reminder before I sign off for the week that you can celebrate Mardi Gras in Waco Saturday evening from 8 p.m. to midnight right downtown on Austin Avenue.
The action will happen between Seventh and Eighth streets with a masquerade block party to benefit the Waco Performing Arts Company.
Tickets cost $100 and will let you go to any of the six venues and includes all food and drink, with the exception of a VIP dinner at the Green Room Grille.
For more information, go to mardigraswaco.org.
Weather should be nice for the event. Saturday’s afternoon high will be around 68 degrees and it’s only supposed to hit a low of 56 as a light south wind will blow and clouds will come in to retain the heat. There is a 20 percent chance of showers, which usually means we won’t see a drop.
The better chances for rain are Sunday and Monday.
Have a great weekend. And don’t eat too much during the Super Bowl Sunday night.

$100 for tickets, for something that’s only going to last 4 hours?!? I’ve been to the real Mardi Gras three times and I’m sorry, but I wouldn’t pay that much to go to a knock off event, even if I could justify the cost.

Galveston Mardi Gras has sponsors and is free to the public. Why the heck would anyone PAY to get in?

One Hundred Dollars for Waco entertainment? Are you kidding me? Hey Sury….you couldn’t pay me to go to you’re silly Waco Mardi Gras. I’ll go to the real Mardi Gras for free. A bunch of high-roller wanna-bees in chicken-feed town…..Waco.

As a former New Orleanian, living here in perpetual exile from the storm, I thought this was a great idea for Central Texas. Yes, $100 is high, but it’s a FUNDRAISER. If you were a member of a Krewe in New Orleans, you know how much it costs to ride and to attend the ball. $100 is nothing. And what a spread you get for that $100—live music, drinks, great food, and the opportunity to walk the streets to enjoy all of this. I will go again next year—if we’re not in New Orleans. Class event y’all put on. Keep it up.
