A good woman

What makes a good woman?

One of my favorite Bible verses is found in Proverbs 31:10-30. I’ll paraphrase the qualities listed here.

A good wife:

1) can be trusted 2) satisfies her man 3) helps, not hinders her man 4) stays busy doing useful things 5) is energetic and a hard worker 6) gives to the needy, does charitable works 7) wears purple (>: 8) is a woman of strength and dignity 9) speaks wise words and is kind 10) knows what goes on in her home 11) is blessed by her children and husband

Proverbs 31:30 sums up: Charm can be deceptive and beauty doesn’t last, but a woman who fears and reverences God shall be greatly praised.

Many women have lost the art of being women. Somewhere in the feminist movement we’ve lost our femininity. Sometimes to be strong we have to be soft. Sometimes we have to appear soft while straightening a spine of steel.

Man-bashing does us no favors, and being a helpmeet to a man does us no disservice. It’s OK to be girly girls!

And even though my marriage didn’t work out I at least can take pride in the fact that I stood by my ex-husband as long as I could, was faithful and helped him in every way I could. And I refuse to be bitter and decide to do things differently the next go round. That’s just who I am.

And as Tammy Wynette put it, “Stand by your Man.”
