High-Tech Santa
Santa Claus is looking forward to the time-honored traditions of visiting with children at Richland Mall and receiving letters at the North Pole, but he also is giving his communications a high-tech update.
Richland Mall’s holiday Web site home page, RichlandMall.com, is the official source for connecting with Santa this holiday season. Through the site, parents can learn his visiting hours at the mall, print a Dear Santa letter and coloring sheets, and download a series of video messages from Santa about how he and his elves are preparing for Christmas. They can also sign their children up to receive mobile telephone text messages from the Santa.
Parents or grandparents can log onto the site, input a few facts about the child, and schedule times for the children to receive the message. Three text messages to a child before Christmas Day cost $5.49, and a customizable message for Christmas morning can be scheduled for an additional 99 cents.

Gift of Food
Richland Mall is teaming up with Santa and his elves during November and December to collect food and financial donations for Waco’s neediest families.
The mall is joining more than 80 CBL properties across the country to collect non-perishable food for distribution to local food banks. Caritas of Waco will use all donations to provide for those in need during the holidays and into 2010.
More than 36.2 million Americans, including more than 12 million children and nearly three million seniors, are in need of food assistance.
Richland Mall is asking shoppers, including families visiting Santa, to bring their food donations to the Santa Set. Cherry Hill Photo, an industry leader in capturing the Santa photo experience, will provide a discount on photo packages to all donors.
Shoppers are not required to visit Santa or have their photo taken to make donations.

BanksHonored
Four local banks will be recognized today for their efforts to help pay the legal bills of low-income Texans.
The Texas Access to Justice Foundation will honor BBVA Compass, Fidelity Bank of Texas, First National Bank of Bosque County and Independent Bank at a luncheon at noon at the La Fiesta Party Room on Franklin Avenue.
They will receive the “Prime Partner Award” from the Foundation.
The Foundation receives a significant amount of its funding from the Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts program. Prime Partner banks pay higher interest rates than other participating banks, making more money available for legal aid.
“Legal Aid programs are severely under-funded and unable to meet the overwhelming demand for legal services,” said Betty Balli Torres, executive director of the Foundation. “Prime Partner banks are to be commended for their efforts in aiding those who desperately need assistance for a wide range of legal issues, including domestic abuse, landlord-tenant disputes, life-sustaining service denials and other civil matters.”
With the recent drop in interest rates, Prime Partners help to mitigate the decline in revenue available to fund legal aid, Torres said.

Tax Notes
The state of Texas sold $5.5 billion in Tax and Revenue Anticipation Notes for a record-low interest rate of 0.48 percent, Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced.
That means Texas will have to pay only 0.48 percent interest on the short-term notes to distribute state funding to public schools early in the upcoming fiscal year and manage its cash flow between the start of the fiscal year and the arrival of tax revenues later in the year.
“We had an impressive sale and an excellent interest rate — the best Texas has ever had,” Combs said. “Buyers bid more than $28 billion to obtain a portion of the $5.5 billion in notes Texas offered for sale Tuesday. That is more than five times the amount available for purchase. The high demand for Texas’ high-quality notes drove the interest rate down to its historic low.”
