7/28: Ryan Seacrest bitten by a shark, hosts Emmys again but is joined by others

ryan-seacrest.jpg

Ryan Seacrest told his KIIS-FM listeners Monday morning he had been bitten by a shark over the weekend.

It wasn’t exactly a “Jaws” type event, though, based on the accounting via Us Magazine.

Seacrest, 33, said the shark’s tooth “wasn’t a great thing to find. It was like finding a splinter!”

Although he said he was “in pain,” the American Idol co-host wasn’t hurt too badly, as he still went on the air to blab about it. (“I need to take an Advil!” he yelped.)

I tried to get some insight from his mom Connie but she said, “Mom’s out of the loop on this one.” She learned about it from E! News. She figured since he didn’t contact her, it wasn’t anything serious. “He should be in Salt Lake City right now doing ‘Idol’ auditions,” she said.

In other Seacrest news, his hosting job a year ago at the Emmy’s was OK, but this year, with the introduction of the new “reality program host” category, he will be joined by fellow nominees Heidi Klum (“Project Runway”), Howie Mandel (“Deal or No Deal”), Jeff Probst (“Survivor”) and Tom Bergeron (“Dancing With the Stars”).

More info at deadlinehollywooddaily.com, a great site for TV/movie inside dope.

-Did anyone out there make it to weekend appearances in metro Atlanta by Ace Young, Kimberley Locke or Chris Sligh? How did things go?

-Curious fact: Colbie Caillat, who has had two big top 40 hits with “Bubbly” and “Realize,” tried out for “American Idol” but didn’t even make it before the main judges. But she marketed herself through MySpace, got herself a record deal and is now a big deal herself.

-Jordin Sparks told a U.K. media outlet that she had a crush on “No Air” duet partner Chris Brown and was disappointed to hear he was dating Rihanna. That’s tough competition!

-Here’s the same article every publication writes about “Idol” auditions. Different city, same concept. This time, David Archuleta’s Salt Lake City.

-And this Rochester newspaper critic was not feelin’ the “Idols Live” tour at all..

I’d say this has been the most negative review I’ve seen this year:

In an evening of extraordinarily flat entertainment, the 10 Idols, lifeless as road kill, were overshadowed by the overly dramatic graphics introducing them on the video screens looming over the stage at the Blue Cross Arena.

Believe me, it doesn’t get better from there from Mr. Sourpuss Jeff Spevak.

He even noted that ratings have been in a “two-year death spiral,” a wee bit of an exaggeration for a program that’s still by far the No. 1 show in America.

You have to wonder which boss he’s hating right now for forcing him to go to that show!

  • And here’s a movie poster I came across at a journalists’ convention in Chicago featuring Jennifer Hudson in an upcoming film “The Secret Life of Bees”:

Welcome back Rodney. Hope you had an eventful time in the windy city. From all that I’ve heard regarding the tour, no one is giving it great reviews. Some are just okay, where others are blasting it.

The Bee movie must be a new one. Never heard of it before. Looks like it has star quality with the lineup.

Yep, i thought i remembered reading about this story a few years back:

From Wikipedia (for anyone who’s interested, and if you’re not interested, just skip over this post, please)—

The Secret Life of Bees is a 2002 bestselling novel by American author Sue Monk Kidd. It has received much critical acclaim and became a New York Times bestseller. It has won the Orange Prize. The novel has been adapted into a film by Gina Prince-Bythewood that stars Dakota Fanning, Hilarie Burton, Alicia Keys,Tristan Wilds, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Hudson and Queen Latifah. The film will be released in fall 2008.

Set in South Carolina in 1964, The Secret Life of Bees tells the story of Lily Owens, whose life has been shaped around the blurred memory of the afternoon her mother was killed. When Lily’s fierce-hearted black “stand-in-mother”, Rosaleen, insults three of the deepest racists in town, Lily decides to spring them both free from jail. They escape to Tiburon, South Carolina — a town that holds the secret to her mother’s past. Taken in by an eccentric trio of black beekeeping sisters, Lily is introduced to their mesmerizing world of bees and honey, and the Black Mary. While in Tiburon, Lily sees the other side of the race line. Including the arrest of Zach, her love interest, after he was wrongly accused of throwing a bottle at police in front of a movie theater. Also the ins and outs of the honey biz leads her to find her mother’s true past.

Hello!

We’re back from the sunny climes of southern California.

Apparently, y’all had a little bit of rain while I was gone. I know this because my septic tank backed up into my basement. YUCK!!!!!! The clean up crew is working as I type. YUCK!!!! However, we DID need to replace the rug in the basement….now insurance will pay for it. There are always ways to find a silver lining in the YUCKIEST disasters. DOUBLE YUCK!!!!!!!

More tomorrow.

PS…JT, I had a nice chat with a family from Oregon on the rental car shuttle bus. Well, they chatted while we listened….do y’all talk that much up there or was it just this particular family?

Good Morning Bloggers!!!!!

Finally Coffey is GONE!!! Order to win is Melissa, Gabe and Shawn. Melissa was awesome last night. She is going to be hard to beat unless the younger generation casts votes for Shawn.

Did any of yoyu notice that when Coffey and Gabe were standing next to each other that they looked like Mutt and Jeff due to their heights?

Good morning all. I can’t click on the comments either. I wanted to be FIRST!!!

Anyway, is there anything worse than a frustrated, wannabe English teacher. Would someone tell Thomas that “AJC” should be capitalized and that his request should be followed by a question mark?

So is this right… “bitten me”

By DawnH

July 29, 2008 9:22 AM | Link to this

I ain’t sure, JT. I don’t know nothing about them participles. However, in this case, I think “bite me” as a response to Thomas would suffice.
