Waco Jazz Orchestra presents music of Basie, Sinatra
By Sandi Horton
The Waco Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Tim Cates will present "Frankly Basie" Monday, Oct. 24, at 7:30 pm at the Ball Performing Arts Center on the McLennan Community College campus. Admission is free.
This WJO concert will feature the music of Count Basie and Frank Sinatra that topped the charts in the '60s. Classic swing tunes such as "Fly Me To The Moon," "I've Got You Under My Skin," "Just In Time" and "Come Fly With Me" will be played, plus many other favorites from that time period. Waco vocalist Bruce Carbonara (left) will sing several selections with the WJO.
The WJO is a 17 piece instrumental "Big Band" jazz group. Members of the WJO are Central Texas musicians who have careers as educators, accountants, entrepreneurs, doctors, and other businessmen. The musicians rehearse and perform on Monday nights. The musicians are selected by audition only when there is an opening, much like a symphony orchestra with set instrumentation.
The WJO has been entertaining audiences in Central Texas since 1989.
Save these dates for future 2011-2012 concerts. All are performed at MCC at 7:30 pm.
