That Oct. 4 Baylor-Texas matchup in Austin just got a little juicier.
After the Longhorns’ spring football scrimmage ended Saturday afternoon, linebacker Steve Edmond went off on the Big 12 champion Bears even though he wasn’t asked about them.
“We could have won the conference,” Edmond said. “Even though I didn’t get a chance to play in the Baylor game, I really feel like we should have beat Baylor. I really don’t like Baylor. I still think they’re trash.”
Edmond was out with an injury and watched the game from Austin as Baylor rolled to a 30-10 win over Texas at Floyd Casey Stadium last December to clinch its first Big 12 title. Edmond wasn’t impressed.
“I’m mad as I can be. I knew we were a better team than they were,” Edmond said. “And then Baylor gets the win and acts like they had never won before. Even in high school, you know how to react when you win a game. It’s not like you never won a game.”
Of course, Edmond’s quotes blew up on Twitter, and drew responses from Baylor players.
Baylor offensive lineman Troy Baker posted a picture of himself kissing the Big 12 championship trophy and tweeted: “I love this trash too.”
Baylor tight end Jordan Najvar, a senior on last year’s team, tweeted: “Lol to Steve Edmond’s comment. Sorry your 4/5 rating on Rivals doesn’t translate to you beating Baylor.”
